Mr. Roy Lee Johnson
A charming man with a humble heart
Born October 28, 1952 in Clarksdale Arkansas. He was the second of nine children born to parents Clifford Jr and Alean Johnson. The family relocated to Chicago IL in 1957 where he was raised.
Roy accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Divine St Paul MBC, where he was baptized and worshiped with his family.
Roy had a beautiful voice and he loved to sing. One of his favorite artists was Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Growing up his nickname was “Lil Smokey” He was member of the Gospel Singing Group “The Soul Touchers”. They traveled the Chicagoland area singing God’s praises.
Roy attended John Marshall High School where he graduated in 1970, after graduating he was drafted into the U S Army.
Roy was united in Holy Matrimony to Delores J. Flax on June 28, 1975, two beautiful daughters were born to this union.
He was employed at United States Post Office, Danley Machine Corp and was later employed at Rexnord Aerospace where he worked for 30 years until he retired in December 2022.
After retiring he spent his time at home. His positive personality traits, kind heartedness, and infectious laughter always filled the atmosphere of any room that he entered.
Roy’s passion was caring for and celebrating “The Ladies in his life”
His wife Delores affectionally know by his family as (Punkin) shared 50 years of togetherness and displayed the true meaning of “And two shall become one”
His Mother Alean and Mother- in Love Elizabeth. They each held their own special place in his heart.
Daddy’s Girls- Deirdra and Elizabeth… whom he loving allowed to wrap him around their fingers as he wrapped them both in his arms of love and protection.
Being with family was one of his favorite pastimes. He shared a bond with his 8 siblings that was exceptional and unbreakable.
Roy had many hobbies, he loved building computers and other electronic gadgets, he was a Photographer, loved bowling and going to Flea Markets. He will fondly be remembered as a phenomenal DJ his love for music was contagious with every record he played at (The Den) our family bonding time with his closing song “Jesus is Love” by the Commadores.
To know Roy was to love him. His influence will forever remain to guide the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
Roy departed this earthly life on Wednesday January 8, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Johnson Jr and his nephew Roderick Johnson.
His legacy and memory will live on through his Wife of 50 years Deloris J Johnson, Daughters: Deirdra (Maurice) Lumpkin, Elizabeth (Sheridan) Claiborne Granddaughters: Brielle (His little mini me) Porchey ( Antonio), Coshena, Marissa (Lizette), Mya, Makiya and Grandson: Maurice Jr (Salina). Great-Grandchildren: Amari and Amurryon.
His Mother Alean Johnson and Mother-in Love Elizabeth Flax. Two brothers: Fred(Rosa) Johnson and Calvin (Debra) Johnson, Six sisters: Joyce (Wilbur) Neal, Mildred Flax, Alfreda (Oscar) Bryson, Linda (Lonnie) McNeal, Sharon Johnson, and Marilyn Johnson. Three godchildren: Deloris Spencer, Aaliyah Watson and Kevin Jones and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Cousins and Friends.
