Sam was my friend as well as my brother-in-law. He was also, as everyone knows, a very easy person to talk to and spend time with. I will miss him. Beverly Harris 5P8J
Sam and I met when he was Deputy Chief in Kalamazoo, he exhibited a sense of humor that lit up the room in an encouraging sense. We remained in touch after he and I left the department.
Rest easy Sam

I had the good Fortune of meeting Sam when he was the Chief of Police in Benton Harbor, Michigan. It was June of 2003 during a riot and I as a Michigan State Police Commander was assigned to render assistance to the local law enforcement departments. Sam and I bonded immediately and have remained friends, bond by our profession, we are and shall ever be brothers. May the good Lord welcome Sam into his Kingdom.

I'll miss you Sam. I had the upmost respect for you and thought you were a wonderful human being. I remember being so nervous meeting you for the first time. I was so worried if you would think I'd be ok in your eyes for your baby brother. You said and I quote" He's the one that has to live with you you , not me." Loved him ever since. A man of love for his family, a man who honored his word, a man who will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. It was my honor to have come to know you as my friend and to love you as my brother. I will truly miss you Samuel E. Harris. ❤️😢
I have been thinking about the first time Sam was recognized as a hero. When he was in grade school, in either the sixth or seventh grade, he saved a child from being hit by a car by pushing the child out of the way and getting hit himself. He was a "patrol boy" or crossing guard and had a broken arm for his heroics. Sam has always been a hero to me. He set a wonderful example for his younger siblings and friends
