Alma Pendelton, affectionately known as Nana, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
A graduate of John Harris High School, Alma made history through her career with Capital Area Transit (CAT), becoming the first African American female transit operator. She retired in 1997, leaving behind an accomplishment her family takes great pride in. She often shared stories of her experiences behind the wheel, creating memories her family will continue to cherish.
Alma was a loving and generous woman who cherished her family, maintained her faith, and served her community. She enjoyed art, taking long walks, attending her grandchildren’s events, watching football, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her children, Raymond, Charlene, Gerald, Elaine and Robert Pendelton.
She leaves to cherish precious memories of her, her children, Lucretia Pendelton, Bruce Pendelton and Barbara Burney (Case); 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She shared a very special bond with her great-grandson Jojo, who brought her much joy and companionship.
Her legacy lives on through her family, her accomplishments, and the many lives she touched throughout her 94 years.
Alma's life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
