Angela Y. Brooks was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late John and Gladys Butler.
Angela accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful to her relationship with Jesus Christ throughout her life. Her life itself was a ministry of love and a masterclass in elegance, fortitude and authentic excellence. She was a beloved and cherished member of The Chapel at the time of her transitioning to Glory. At The Chapel, Angela served as an honorary mother to many, offering her noteworthy brand of intentional, matter-of-fact, genuinely authentic Love, guidance and encouragement.
Angela was a loving partner to her husband Fred. He describes her to this day as his match made of God. She was also a devoted mother who expected excellence but always led with love. She carried herself with dignity, style, and a sense of calm authority that made her both inspiring and relatable. Her beauty in spirit, mind, and presence was matched by her quick witty humor and her ability to defuse tension with wisdom while modeling grace.
Professionally, Angela’s career can be categorized best by her ability to utilize her masterful skill set in leadership roles across several industries, in a manner far ahead of her time. She graduated from Virginia Union University in 1972 with a degree in Elementary Education. And she went on to become a sought-after speaker, a tenured educator, and quite remarkably was among the architects who prepared and implemented Civil Rights regulation for the state of Pennsylvania.
Angela found great joy in cooking and baking, hosting family gatherings (impromptu and planned), and loving on her grand babies. She was a master home-chef and a skilled artist when it came to creating and curating gatherings – from aesthetic detail to warm, welcoming, fun atmosphere.
The epitome of grace, intellect, strength and sophistication, Angela was a multidimensional Woman who balanced Family, career, Friendship, community leadership, and personal integrity with an effortless elegance and humor. She was one of one. She was sharp, eloquent, and unflinchingly poised - commanding respect both inside and outside her home. She navigated her professional life with precision and her personal life with warmth and wit. She had the uncanny ability to inspire the best in everyone upon whom she cared to focus her love and attention. And we all are better off for having known and loved her.
Angela entered into eternal rest on November 7, 2025, surrounded by the Family that she loved on so selflessly. She was preceded in death by her parents and three of her siblings, Ronald Butler, Cheryl Weedon and John Butler, Jr.
She leaves to cherish memories of her, her husband of 50 years, Frederick Brooks, Jr.; her daughter, Faith (John) Brooks-Carr; her son, Eric (Christine) Brooks; bonus daughter, Lynette (Kevin) Hammond; 9 grandchildren, Noah Brooks, Ryan Brooks, Chayce Brooks, Jaxon Brooks-Carr, Benjamin Brooks, Journy Brooks-Carr, Krystin Williams, Kevin Hammond, Jr. and Danielle (Khalif) Solomon; her brother, Wallace (Cecilia) Butler; brother-in-law, William Weedon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts/uncles, extended family, and friends.
Services will be held in Celebration of her Life on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Living Water Community Church, 206 Oakleigh Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17111 with Reverend James N. Tate officiating. Viewing and visitation will be held from 9:30 am with service following at 11:00 am and Interment will follow at Paxtang Cemetery.

Angela was an amazing mentor. She helped me get through each day when I thought about giving up. She always would check on me and when she saw me she always told me to keep doing what I'm doing and never stop making a difference. She told me she had eyes on me and the good things she had heard from parents. It was always good to know she stood by me. She will be truly missed .
