Obituary For Arie Ann Lavenia "Ninnie" Moore-Walker

Arie Ann Lavenia Moore-Walker, affectionately known as Ninnie, daughter of the late Robert Ghost and Virginia Howard Moore, was born Sunday, October 10, 1920 in Smarr, Georgia.

After completing her education in Macon, Georgia, Arie began her working career as a cook for AT&T. In 1947, Arie relocated to Pennsylvania, where she became a private domestic worker and devoted 42 years of service to the same family.

Arie was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church on the West Side of Steelton. After the church relocated to Harrisburg, she continued her faithful service, serving as President of the Deaconess Board, in addition to serving in several other ministries. She later became a member of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church before eventually relocating back to Georgia.

Arie was well known throughout the Steelton and Harrisburg area for her exceptional cooking and baking skills. She lovingly prepared countless wedding cakes for family, friends, and members of the community. Every Sunday and holiday, with love as the main ingredient, Arie prepared a feast for her family to enjoy.

One of Arie’s most beloved specialties was her delicious yeast rolls, served hot and fresh from the oven. Their irresistible aroma could be smelled from a distance, drawing everyone into her home to enjoy. Arie’s gift for cooking was more than a talent—it was one of the many ways she showed love to those around her. Her recipes, her generous spirit, and the memories created around her kitchen table will remain a cherished part of her legacy.

Arie’s most prized possessions were her family, from the youngest to the oldest. Her only child, her son, Thomas, Sr., was the apple of her eye. Anytime she spoke of him, you could see the love she carried for her son. Their bond was a treasured part of her life, and her love for Thomas remained evident throughout the years.

Early in the morning on Saturday, October 10, 2026, on her 106th birthday, Arie heard the Lord say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” and she peacefully entered into her eternal rest.

In addition to her parents, Arie was preceded in death by her son, Thomas, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Kandace; sisters, Bertha, Alice, Rebecca and Gracie; brother, Robert; grandchildren, Sherle and Glen; great granddaughter, Gail and great-great grandchildren, Jarrett, Deonte and Talia.

Arie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life her grandchildren, Lawrence, Sr. (Brenda), Thomas, Jr. (Patricia), Gwendolyn (John), Deborah, Elease, Nicole (Luther) and Christopher; 21 great grandchildren; 25 great great grandchildren; 11 great great great grandchildren; a niece and nephew and a host of other close relatives and family friends.

Her life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026 in the Sanctuary of Harrisburg First Assembly of God, 4100 Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17110 with viewing and visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.

I will never forget and always love Ninnie;. She always made our family her delicious yeast rolls. I can remember her and my mother talking about their menus and for Easter it was lamb.I can remember Mitchell saying I am taking Mrs. Moore some yeast.
