Augusta passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 24, 2024. We celebrate the homecoming of our beloved Mother, Daughter, Sister, Auntie, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Trusted friend. Augusta was born to the late E.A. (Bill) Williams and Birdie Jane Thomas Williams Jeter of Canton, NC. She was blessed with 88 years of a full and wonderful life.
She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1954 and attended Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Augusta resided in Kent, Washington for 35 years where she retired from Safeway as a truck driver. Augusta, also known as ‘Redd’ and ‘Lovey’ enjoyed driving 18 wheelers. She drove trucks for over 50 years. During her driving tenure, she hauled Tennessee Walkers to horse shows in various states, drove dump trucks and cement mixer trucks for Penn Supply, and 18 wheelers for Halls Motor Transit, Delta Lines and Safeway Food and Drugs. One of her favorite stories to tell was when she had the opportunity to pull ‘triple’ trailers in Oregon. She retired in 2001 after 50 years of employment, although there were many times when she missed being on the road, she decided not to go back on the road, although she was asked many times.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Albert Davis Sr, her sister Joyce Tucker, brothers Samuel Williams, Dallas Williams, Allison Williams and great-grandchildren, Keveyauna Poole and Isaq Poole.
Left to cherish memories of her are her brother, Sylvester Williams; her children, Anique Gunning and her husband, Roscoe Gunning, Auvis Davis and Albert Davis, Jr. and his late wife Tensy Davis; her grandchildren, Deneshya Poole, Austin Poole, Brittany Davis, Quion Gunning, Qyler Gunning and Jhabrea Mitchell; her great-granddaughters, Dae-Neshya Collins and Angel Davis.
When remembering Augusta, wonderful and happy memories come to us of her very strong spirit and the ability to always stand strong. She was always looking forward to playing putt putt with her family. She had Bbbbbbbosssss skills! We remember her great love of the Lord and her deep love for her family and friends.
Augusta had a strong love for the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy for more than 50 years. During her years of church service, she held various positions such as; Youth Leader, Mission Leader, Song Leader, VLB leader, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, and Pastor Booster. She loved to travel, especially when she was in the driver seat and could put the pedal to the metal. She was determined to attend the Church of God of Prophecy’s District Conventions, State Conventions, and General Assemblies, no matter where they were being held. She loved to sing solos in church and play one of her many guitars or play some of her cherished songs on the piano. She loved singing and playing to the Lord because it gave her so much joy.
We will miss you, Mother, Mom, Grandmother, Mother D, Gram Gram and Great-Grandmother, Auntie and Trusted Friend.
Her life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
