BARBARA J. SPRAGLIN was born in Harrisburg to the late Oscar L. Montgomery and the late Helen (Dorsey) Montgomery. Barbara was an only child who grew up in a very loving and nurtured home and family environment. She was the "apple of her Grandmother's eye" as she also lived in the household with Barbara and her parents.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Harrisburg School District and graduated from John Harris High School in 1955. After high school, she attended and graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. While at Morgan State she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
After college graduation, Barbara returned to Harrisburg and began her teaching career. She remained with the Harrisburg School District until her retirement. She was a dedicated professional and loved teaching and preparing students for their futures.
Barbara enjoyed traveling with her husband to ball games and Sorority events. They journeyed to every major baseball park in the US. Her favorite baseball team was the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Chiefs were her favorite football team. Even in her later years, she remained the avid sports fanatic and loyal to her teams.
She was a member of Wesley Union AME Zion Church.
Barbara passed away at the age of 85 years on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard O. Spraglin. She leaves to cherish fond memories of her, her niece, Rosland Baskerville of Winston Salem, NC; her special niece and caretaker, R. I am so sorry to hear of Mrs Spraglins passing. She was not my teacher but I had always wanted to be in her class. She was a blessing to all and a pillar in the district and her community. I was honored to have known her. May you find comfort in knowing that she was an angel on earth and now in heaven. Lisa Lowery Spriggs
