Carey Murry, 71, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, transitioned from earth to eternity on Sunday, April 13, 2025 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Harrisburg, PA to the late Bessie P. Murry.
He was educated in the Susquehanna Township School System and was a long-time resident of the Edgemont Community. He served as a volunteer at the Edgemont firehouse social club, and was a volunteer fireman at the Edgemont Fire Company.
Carey began his work career as a Mail Clerk with the PA Department of Insurance and worked his way up to an Insurance Investigator Agent 1 position. After 20 years of state service, he then went and worked at Fry Communications and the US Postal Service. While at Fry, he won a golfing trophy; his first time playing that sport.
Baptized as a teenager at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, he attended Sunday School there. Later in life he joined the Young Adult Choir and the Sanctuary Choir at St. Paul. He also participated in plays produced by the Widows and Widowers Ministry. He later transferred his membership to Baptist Fellowship Church. There he joined the church choir and supported the Widow and Widowers Ministry in whatever capacity they requested his help.
Carey was a member of his high school track team. He loved to run and was quite fast. He enjoyed road trips, especially to attend jazz festivals. He was also known for partying hard. Other past times included playing basketball, shooting pool, playing chess, fishing and watching professional sports. He was an avid E-A-G-L-E-S fan. Walking was a favorite past time. In his later years, he could be seen walking around the neighborhood chatting with whomever he encountered. Gregarious and outgoing, Carey never had a problem engaging complete strangers.
Carey loved to eat and cook. His favorite food was fried chicken, followed closely by fried fish. He was always up for a cookout and assumed the role of family reunion grill cook, after the passing of an older cousin who held the position. He passed on his culinary skills to his son which later became a family grilling rivalry to see who was the better "grill master".
Carey is survived by his son, Carey Adam Michael Murry; ex-wife, Lowware Holliman; twin brother, Chester Murry; sister, Wilhelmenia Murry, all of Harrisburg. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Holliman Family in-laws.
His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in the Sanctuary of Baptist Fellowship Church, 3985 N. 2nd Street, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in East Harrisburg Cemetery.

To the Murry family, I was a neighbor of Carey's in Edgemont. I wanted to extend my condolences to you all.
Dear Family, We are so sorry to hear of Carey's passing. He was such a loving, caring father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, employee and enthusiastic Edgemont community member. His memory will be cherished by many whose lives he touched throughout his well-lived years. Of course, a select few of us will remember Carey through our generous appetites and his penchant for dishing out spicy delights. We will remember him for his generous spirit, his kind laugh and quick wit. May you all be comforted by the Lord's embrace in your sorrow.
To the Murray family My deepest & sincere condolences to you all in the passing of Carey. We all grew up in Edgemont and Carey was my brother Barry's age, Carey helped me out with an insurance issue I had..he gathered all the information & ammunition I needed to stand up to this company and he was extremely good at his job, I'm forever grateful for that. May his eternal soul rest in peace and Our Lord give you all comfort & strength during this time.
