Diana Davis, 69, daughter of the late Roberta J. Pearson Sloane and Clarence Beatty, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Diana was educated in the Steelton Public School system and attended Harrisburg Area Community College majoring in Business Management.
Diana began working for the Federal Government at the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot in 1973. She was a dedicated employee until her retirement as a Contract Specialist in 2011 after completing 38 years of service.
After enlisting in the Army Reserves in 1974, Diana became the First Black Female to be promoted to the ranks of Sergeant First Class and First Sergeant of the 453d Finance and Accounting Unit. Diana retired from the U. S. Army Reserves as a First Sergeant with twenty 21 years of service and is a decorated Desert Storm Veteran.
Diana Joined Elkdom at the young age of 11, initiated into the JR Excelsior Temple #21. In 1973 (age 19) was transferred to Cyrenus Temple #75 Steelton, PA and joined the Charles P. McClane Marching Unit. She held various offices in both organizations. She is a Past Daughter Ruler of the Temple and was currently the Treasurer. She also belongs to Keystone Council and is a Past Loyal Daughter Ruler and Council Queen and was currently the Loyal Daughter Ruler; received her Past State President Honors in 1977 and became a member of the Past State Presidents Club and is also a past Recording and Assistant Financial Secretary; Past Recording Secretary and current Treasurer of the Charles P. McClane Shrine Fez Club #156; received her Past Grand Daughter Ruler Honors in 1996 in Louisville, KY and became a member of the National Past Grand Daughter Ruler’s Circle #1 and now belongs to the Bertha Allen Past Grand Daughter Ruler’s Circle as the current Recorder. She is a Past 2nd State Vice President and Financial Secretary of the Pennsylvania State Association of the I.B.P.O.E. of W. She served thirteen (13) years as a Grand District Deputy for the Grand Temple. She also holds memberships in the following organizations - American Legion Post #733 (Adjutant); American Business Women’s Association; Life Time and Gold Plus Member of Blacks In Government, ALLMECH Chapter President and the Naval Sea Logistics Center Toastmasters Club; Deborah Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Inc., PHA, PA, Deborah Grand Chapter Queen (2019, 2021, 2022); she is a Past Worthy Matron of Esther Chapter No. 1, Fifth District Treasurer, Amaranth Peace Court No. 3; Royal Perfect Matron of Princess Cyrene Court No. 14 and a member of Harrisburg Assembly No. 50 Order of the Golden Circle.
In her leisure she enjoyed watching her beloved Philadelphia Eagles and watching her grandchildren play football, basketball and dance.
In holy matrimony, she married the love of her life, Edmund J Davis from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1998.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and since 1966 was a member of New Hope Living Baptist Church, now Pastored by Reverend William Rucker.
On Thursday, January 11, 2024 Diana unexpectedly transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life at the UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents Roberta J. Pearson Sloane and Clarence Beatty; her sister, Sharon Sloane; granddaughter, Lexi Ann; stepdaughter, Tamika O’Neal and great granddaughter, Egypt.
Cherishing their memories of Diana are her husband, Edmund; her 4 sons, Terence Sloane Sr, Darrell O’Neal, Duane O’Neal-Sloane, Sr. and James O’Neal-Sloane, Sr.; her daughter, Jennifer Sloane Montgomery (Robert); her 2 brothers, Shedrick Sloane and Rodger Hines; her sisters, Dale Scott (Joseph), Angela Preston and Avis Wallace (Daniel), all of Harrisburg; her father-in-law, Gerald Davis (Diana); her brothers-in-law, Garrett (Ivee), Jarrett and Todd Davis of Pittsburgh; her sister-in-law, Kattie Davis of Rhode Island; her godson, Naquan Durham of Harrisburg; 26 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and other extended family and friends.
Her life will be celebrated with a viewing, visitation and Elk and Order of Eastern Star Services on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of The First Baptist Church of Steelton and Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26th in the Sanctuary of The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 S. 19th Street, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
