Obituary For Dorothy Ann Stagemyer

DOROTHY ANN STAGEMYER was born on Friday, October 31, 1941 to the late Ralph Hill and Eula Mae (Chandler) Hill in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was the youngest of six children.

Dorothy was educated in the Knoxville public school system and graduated from her beloved Austin High School in 1960. Dorothy had a passion for helping people. She also had such a charming sweet personality. After High School, she worked as a physician’s assistant for a prominent physician in Knoxville. She was also skilled at sewing and worked at a factory in Knoxville that made flight jackets for the United States Military. Dorothy took pride in integrating many companies and businesses in her home town. She worked there until her father took ill and she took time off to care for him.

After her father’s passing, she and her mother decided to move to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to be with other family that had moved there sooner. After arriving in Harrisburg, Dorothy worked at Telegraph Press for a brief period before she secured a position at Harrisburg Hospital as a C.N.A. where she worked for 28 years until she retired. She married Robert Stagemyer in 1972. In post retirement, she worked at the Hershey Chocolate Plant and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue. Throughout her employment, Dorothy was well liked and respected by many coworkers and staff for her professionalism and dedication in all of her employment endeavors.

Dorothy spent a great deal of her life with her beloved church family at Harris A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a lifelong member since the church was on Marion Street. In later years, she was involved in various auxiliaries at the church. However Dorothy was most devoted to her beloved Harris Gospel Chorus, where she spent almost 4 decades. As a dedicated member, she loved music and loved singing. She established multiple friendships on the choir that lasted literally up to the last days she spent on earth. She also served with the Missionary Society and Youth Ministry.

In her leisure, Dorothy loved taking care of plants, socializing with friends and family and crafts of any sort from knitting to gardening, to sewing patchwork and repairs. She was a warm loving person, who always made everyone she met feel like an old friend. Dorothy will likely be remembered for her love for laughter, the Lord, her family and friends.

On Friday, April 24, 2020 in Forest Hill, Maryland at 12:09 a.m. with her beloved son by her side, Dorothy Ann Stagemyer, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 24 days, was summoned by the Most High to say farewell to this world and make her way to His throne escorted by an angel that the Lord Himself dispatched to her hospice room. She is now safe in His loving arms.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in transitioning to eternal life by her brother; Henry Hill; her sisters, Barbara Jo Johnson, Emma Jean Coffee and Ralph Mae Kersey; her aunt, Callie Bell Hill and her brother-in-law, Ben Jonson, Sr.

Dorothy leaves to cherish precious memories of her and to celebrate such a beautiful life, her son, DeWayne D. Hill; her daughter-in-law, Sandra J. Hill; her granddaughter, Amaris T. Hill; her grandson, Aaron B. Hill, all of Joppa, Maryland; her sister, Betty Lee Coffee of Dayton, Ohio; her nieces Pamala Fair of Dayton, Ohio, Cecilia Coffee of San Francisco, California and Shelmar Fordham of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; her nephews, Henry Coffee, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ben Johnson II of Riverside, California and many cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends and people that she met along her journey that fell in love with the love of Christ that shines through her.

Dorothy’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Harris A. M. E. Zion Church at 915 North 17th Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17103 with Viewing at 10:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.
