EVELYN βSISSYβ WASHINGTON daughter of the late Irene Page Sutton and the late Albert Sutton was born in Rowland, North Carolina.
She relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania as a teenager. During her working career, she was employed by the Harrisburg School District as a Food Service Supervisor and she retired as a head custodian.
On February 28, 1958, she married the late Harry William Washington and they were blessed with three children, Darlene, Connie and Fay.
She loved her family and took good care of them. In her leisure she enjoyed cooking, bingo, dancing, listening to gospel music and fishing.
As a witness to her faith, she was a member of Mount Calvary Church Of God In Christ.
At the age of 82 years, Evelyn βSissyβ Washington departed from this eternal life on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at her home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania surrounded by family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene Washington Stewart; her grandson, Rasheem Thomas Easter, Jr.; her sisters, Ella Haines, Hazel Thompson and Almatine Davis and brothers, Charles Sutton, Ervin Sutton and Nathaniel Sutton. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish precious memories of her; her children, Fay and Connie of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; her brother, Johnny Sutton; her eight grandchildren, Kemyah Washington, Shana Washington, Gary Washington, Jamyl Washington, James Washington, Jarell Washington, Ronald Collier and Trevon Washington; 32 great grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn's life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in the Sanctuary of her church, 1830 N. 5th Street, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.

I remember when I was in Camp Curtis Elementary School and didn't have enough money for lunch. Ms Sissy would make sure I had a hot meal to eat. To save me from being embarrassed, she would discreetly take me and others to the main office to enjoy our meal. May God comfort the family during your hour of bereavement.
