Franklin William Gordon, Sr., son of the late Lucious Gordon and the late Bernice Gordon, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Frank was raised in Jersey City, where he attended P.S. 35 through sixth grade, P.S. 23 through eighth grade and later Dickinson High School. As a child, Frank—affectionately known as “Frankie”—was shy, gentle, and soft-spoken. He had a natural sweetness to him, often bringing home stray animals and giving them a place to belong.
He loved roller skating, listening to oldies on the radio, and had a lifelong sweet tooth. His easy-going nature followed him throughout his life.
As a young man, Frank entered the United States Army, serving honorably from January 1975 to January 1978 as an infantryman. His military service took him to California, where he made lasting memories, including driving a beat-up yellow Volkswagen Beetle all the way from California back to New Jersey. The Army shaped his discipline, his character and the steadiness he was known for throughout his life.
Following his service, Frank eventually settled in Pennsylvania, where he built a long and dedicated career with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in New Cumberland. Over the course of 31 years, he worked as a security guard and later as a forklift operator, earning the respect of his coworkers through his reliability and gentle spirit. He retired in 2015.
Frank’s joys were simple and meaningful. He loved watching old Westerns and game shows, reading and collecting books, cheering for his favorite team—the New York Giants—and relaxing in his favorite chair. Above all else, he cherished his family. He lived quietly, peacefully, and kindly—and in the same way, he passed.
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, Frank transitioned peacefully into eternal rest, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Diane McRoy and Robert Gordon.
Frank leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife, Beverly Gordon, whom he married in August 2015. Though married for 10 years, they shared 37 years of life together. He is also survived by his children, Franklin Gordon, Jr., William “Yarnell” Poteat, Leverne Grier, Jr., Michelle Gordon, Sharina Poteat, Tawana Poteat, LaTasha Scrimmager and DeShan Brummell (Matthew); thirteen grandchildren, as well as a host of great-grandchildren; his siblings, Deborah Glover (Ronald) and Nathaniel “Ronnie” Gordon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
The services to honor Frank’s life will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2025 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Interment will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
Frank lived in peace, and he passed in peace. His gentle presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
