Obituary For Gale McFarland

Gale L. McFarland, also affectionately known as Mommy, Big Mama, Susie and Luwenza, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Sarah Annabelle Waters-Dudley and Eugene Dudley.

She received her formal education through the Harrisburg School District and later retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

To know her was to love her. Gale enjoyed spending quality time with her family, playing cards, wearing her famous red lipstick, drinking her tea and eating Krimpets. She also loved watching her stories, getting her nails painted and shopping at her favorite department store, Boscov’s. It was these simple pleasures and the joy she found in everyday moments that made her so special to those who knew and loved her.

Gale transitioned peacefully at home on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

In addition to her parents, Gale was preceded in death by her siblings, Allen Dudley, Sr. and Patricia Dudley-Williams; her grandson, Tyrell Bates; her great-grandchildren, Te’Rae McFarland-Randolph and Ty’Rik McFarland-Hancock; her niece, A'mia Vaughn and her nephews, Terence “Pooh” Dudley and Devyn Smith.

Gale’s wonderful legacy of love will live on through her daughters, Fayth McFarland, Hope Lewis (Jeff) and Joy McFarland; her grandchildren, Teka McFarland-Hancock (Arik), Tyron McFarland, Marcus Bates, Jr., Tajahrae Chase and Jeffrey Lewis II; her great-grandchildren, Te’Sha McFarland, Ty’Zir, Niayla, Ty’Air, Nyani, Nyomi, Marcus III and Nyauri and her one and only great-great-granddaughter, Trinity McFarland-McClure.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her two brothers, Anthony “Tony” Dudley and Jerome “Jerry” Dudley; her godson, Quayzell Jones; her longtime dearest friend, Darraine Jones; her special nieces, Cherie Dudley and Sheena Dudley-Collins; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Though she may be gone from our sight, the love, memories and legacy she leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Gale's life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026 in The Chapel of The Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with a visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
