Obituary For Gwinyai Ohliwayo

GWINYAI DHLIWAYO, 55, passed in the early hours of 1 June 2022 in Lancaster Pennsylvania, USA. He had battled with diabetes for several years of his adult life. In the last five weeks of his life, he developed complications of diabetes from which he sadly did not recover.

Gwinyai was born in his native country of Zimbabwe in Southern Africa in a town called Chipinge situated in the beautiful eastern highlands of Zimbabwe. He was the first child in a family of three children born to Kholisile David Dhliwayo and Bessie Mwachiya Gata. Gwinyai received his early education in Zimbabwe, The United Kingdom and Nigeria. He completed his High School education at Chaplin High School in Gweru, Zimbabwe in 1987 after which he went on to study law at the University of Zimbabwe where he graduated in 1991. He worked in Zimbabwe as a lawyer until 1995 when he emigrated to the United States of America. In the 27 years he lived in the USA until his untimely death, Gwinyai worked in various capacities.

Gwinyai was well loved in his community of Lancaster Pennsylvania where he made many friends along the way. Gwinyai had a big heart where he was known to have welcomed many into his home, giving them a place to stay until they got on their feet. He was extremely generous, soft-spoken and patient in all circumstances. His warm smile brought comfort to many.

Gwinyai never married or had any children of his own. He is survived by a brother Sondelani Dhliwayo and a sister Qelani Lillian Dhliwayo Makina as well as four nieces whom he loved so dearly, Tariro, Alyssa, Cassandra and Jayda.

As a family, we thank God for his wonderful life. He will be deeply missed but remembered with much love.

GWINYAI’S LIFE WILL BE CELEBRATED ON FRIDAY. JUNE 17, 2022 AT 11:00 AM IN THE SANCTUARY OF BETHEL A.M.E. CHURCH AT 459 EAST STRAWBERRY STREET LANCASTER, PA 17602 WITH VIEWING AND VISITATION - 10 AM UNTIL 11:00 AM AND BURIAL IN MELLINGER MENNONITE CEMETERY OF LANCASTER.
