Obituary For JoAnn Gray

JoAnn Marie Gray, the daughter of Marion Echols–Clark and the late Larry Dale Minnifield, was born in Harrisburg, PA.

JoAnn’s educational path included Harrisburg High School, John Harris Campus graduating class of 1991, and earning her AA in Business Studies from Harrisburg Area Community College. She further obtained her Professional Massage Therapist License, and most recently Doula certification.

In her youth, JoAnn attended Trinity Church of God, participating in various youth groups as well as vacation bible school. JoAnn was a multi-sport athlete. Starting with gymnastics, moving on to the swimming team, synchronized swimming, basketball, and the pitcher of the Harrisburg High School Cougars softball team.

During her working career, JoAnn held several positions at the City of Harrisburg, Harrisburg Authority, and Capital Region Water. JoAnn also participated as a member of the Harrisburg PA Zoning Board.

JoAnn loved more than anything, spending time with her family and friends. There was no surprise while filling us with laughter, she would tell the story of her winning a breakdance competition. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling and crafts, crafts, and more crafts. JoAnn’s favorite relaxing method was to chill with a good movie. JoAnn found purpose, joy, and fulfillment in service. Through it all, she always felt her best when helping others.

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, JoAnn peacefully transitioned from this earthly life. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Agnes Minnifield “Mom- Mom”; aunt, Helen Irvin; grandfather, Russel Minnifield; grandfather, Leroy Echols “Pop-Pop”; uncle, George Irvin; niece, Jaquana Mone’t Gray and father in Love, Champ Clark, Jr.

JoAnn leaves a legacy of love to her grandmother, Mrs. Ora Echols; mother, Marion Echols-Clark; daughter, Jade Katherine Gray; sisters, Joy, Bernadatte and Bianca; brother, Larry Joe Minnifiled; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

I don't have the words to express how much you meant to me, and how you felt about me, we had a lot of memories together starting at my age of 13 and we were close ever since.
