Deacon Jonathan Gross, Sr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the oldest son of the late John Thomas Gross and the late Yvonne Satterfield Gross. He received his formal education and finished his education while he served in the US Army. He served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged.
Jonathan was married to Katherine M Gross, his childhood sweetheart from age 12 for 48 years, until her passing in February of 2021, to their union they were blessed with 3 children, Yolanda Elizabeth, Jonathan, Jr. and Jeremy Michael.
Jonathan was employed with the New Cumberland Army depot for 40 years until his retirement. Jonathan was an easy-going person, consistent and a loyal friend. He served others in any way he could be of help. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and he prided himself on his loyalty to the team over the years, he loved playing cards and was known for his daily text of encouragement to those he knew.
Jonathan accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and he served God faithfully. He was Ordained a Deacon by the Late Pastor Carl E Hines, Jr. in 1997, he served with Pastor Hines at Shiloh COGIC until 2007 and then continued his service as a Deacon under Superintendent William Hines, Sr. at the Upon This Rock COGIC until his passing. Jonathan served each ministry faithfully.
Jonathan was a family man, he loved his children and grandchildren. He was proud of them and enjoyed seeing them doing well, working hard and living independently.
On November 10, 2025, Deacon Jonathan Gross, Sr. transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life in the Helen M. Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Jonathan leaves to celebrate his life and memory his children, Yolanda E. Gross, Jonathan Gross, Jr. (Yolanda) and Jeremy M. Gross (Taila), all of Harrisburg; his grandchildren, Whitney, Tony, Jr., Darien, Jonathan III, Deionne, Yvonne, Aneia and Ayden; his great-grandchildren, Nylah, Christopher, Serenity and Nazalya; his aunt, Mary Anderson of Nashville Tennessee; sister-in-law, Camilla Gross of Nashville Tennessee; nieces, nephews and cousins; his spouse of 6 months, Sherdena; extended family and friends and those of the household of faith.
His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in the Sanctuary of Beulah Baptist Church, 100 Livingston Street, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
To my cousin Sherdena, I extend to you my heart felt condolences. I'm so glad that I was able to meet your husband. I remember him coming to my birthday party out here in Indiana. A great time was had and then to see him again at your birthday celebration smiling as he watched your celebrate. I send you all my love.
