Obituary For Jovita Smith

Jovita Octavia Smith, lovingly known as “Goodness”, peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the age of 70, surrounded by her family.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Lena Mae Walker and Carl Edward Walker, Sr. Jovita grew up and received her education in Philadelphia before relocating to Washington, DC. There, she embraced new opportunities, built lasting friendships, and began her journey into marriage and motherhood.

Jovita married the late Leonard Tyrone Smith and together they welcomed a daughter, Rasheeta. She later became the proud mother of two sons, Leslie and Jovin. Her life’s path eventually led her to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she became a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ.

Those who knew Jovita will remember her as a true original – a vibrant, on-of-a-kind soul who touched countless lives. She was the heart of her family, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her bold personality shone through in everything she did, even in her ever-changing hairstyles, which reflected her colorful spirit and inner beauty.

Jovita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Carl Carlton (“CC”) Walker. She leaves to cherish precious memories of her: her daughter, Rasheeta Brantley; son-law, David; her sons, Leslie Smith and Jovin Moore, all of Harrisburg, PA; her grandchildren, David, David Jr., Khalisha, Khalijha, Jeremiah and Issac Brantley; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Wauntia West (Sweety); nephew, Monti West; niece, Natasha Windom-West, all of Harrisburg, PA; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her granddaughter Khalisha Brantley, as well as the dedicated staff of Homeland Nursing Center, Hospice of Central PA, Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, Mt. Calvary COGIC, and Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church for their care and support during Jovita's illness and transition.

Though her earthly journey has ended, her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who love her-like a star that never fades from the night sky.

Jovita's life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Friday, December 19, 2025 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon.
