Julian Gilbert "Gibby" Pettis, 75, of S. 13th St., Harrisburg, peacefully transitioned into eternal life after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the peace and love of his home. He was born in Harrisburg, son of the late, Julian and Gwendolyn (Brown) Pettis; a 1961 graduate of the former John Harris Senior High School; a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, retired in 1998 as a Project Manager from the IBM Corp. with more than 26 years of service and retired from Johnston Mathey as a Project Manager in 2008. Gibby was a devoted husband and loving father and cherished the time spent with family and friends. In his leisure, he also enjoyed hunting, and going to the racetrack. He leaves to celebrate his life, his devoted wife, Vera Watson Pettis; his loving son, Sterling E. Pettis; his loving daughter, Stacy D. Pettis; his granddaughter, Alexis K. Pettis; his brothers, Terry L. Pettis (Dormayne) and Dennis R. Pettis, both of Harrisburg; his sisters, Gloria P. Gardner (Stuart) of Richmond, VA and Geneva P. Hassell (Harold) of Wellington, FL; his uncle, Raymond Pettis (Marian) of Clinton, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Gibby's life will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 S. 19th St., Harrisburg with visitation 10 until 11 a.m. and burial with full military honors in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
