Obituary For Langdon Sedgwick
LANGDON S. SEDGWICK, son of the late William Sedgwick and the late Mary Emma (Pitts) Sedgwick, was born in Chase, Maryland.
He was educated in the Baltimore County Public Schools and graduated from the Sollers Point High School. Following graduation, Langdon joined the United States Army in 1958. He was a Second Class Gunner and Rifle Marksmen. Langdon received the Good Conduct Medal as well as various certificates for his service. He was assigned to Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina where he met his forever love, Betty Ann Haigood who was matriculating at Allen College. Langdon and Betty were married on August 21, 1965.
Langdon retired from the United States Postal Service after thirty-five plus years of service as a Supervisor of Transportation. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a faithful member who loved the Lord and his church family.
He loved to talk, give advice and tell stories about his life adventures. He was a true craftsman. Langdon would fix things for his church, family, friends and strangers. His desire to help people was evident from his early days as a teen and throughout his adult years. He had a big heart and gave his best to his friends and family. Langdon honored his mother as he cared for her until her death. He cared deeply for his wife, who he provided his best.
Langdon S. Sedgwick transitioned from this life on Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Vera Grinage; his brothers, William, Purnell and Ferdinand Sedgwick. He leaves to cherish fond memories of him, his wife, Betty A. Sedgwick; his sister, Arlene Pullum of Chase, Maryland; his son, Ronnie Haigood of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of his church, Bethel AME Church, 1721 N. 5th St., Harrisburg with viewing and visitation 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
