Obituary For Michael Johnson
Michael Leon Johnson, better known to his loved ones as “Big Mike”, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Michael began his journey to Jannah on July 13th, 2024.
Son of two and a father of many! Father Michael had 13 daughters and 5 sons! Daughters, Maria Dunston (Oluseye), Zalika Gonzalez, Asja Johnson, Akua Johnson, Surayyah Johnson, Jennifer McFarland (Moses), Tiffany Thomas, Nisaa Borer-Nelson (Jordan), Sadiyyah Johnson, Charlia Jackson, Tiesha “Shariyfah” Jennings, Aneisha Reid, Mattie Pearl “Nandi” Johnson; Sons, Michael Johnson, Jr., Jamal Jackson, Ayube Johnson, Kuami Wright, Rashaan Johnson. Michael was also a father figure and Uncle to many more. It is evident that Michael enjoyed making children the most!
Michael was an avid reader, lifetime learner and career student, starting with signing himself into grade school and next obtaining his first bachelor's degree from IUP. Michael enjoyed educating himself and anyone in his presence. He was known for his fun facts and trivia questions! He loved music, nature, animals and was a great humanitarian. Michael was a family-oriented man who instilled the importance of family unity. He was a man of service who went out of his way to make sure those around him were secure and without need.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Pearl Johnson and Marion Chisolm; his brothers, Henry, Eulac and Kenneth Johnson; his sister, Lucy Johnson; his nephew, Louis Johnson, Jr. He leaves to cherish memories of him, his brother, Dr. Rev. Louis Johnson; his 18 children; 41 great grandchildren; nieces, Kerry, Kera, and Angel Johnson, Nisa Kelly, Kyeisha Purnell; his nephews, Cornelius and Henry Johnson; his best friend, Scott “Fats” Butler and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Michael’s Janazah was held on July 17th at 1:30 pm at the Islamic Center Masjid Al Sabereen at 1403 S. Cameron Street Harrisburg, PA 17104 and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery in the Islamic section.
