God came and stood beside her. He knew how long she suffered and how weak and worn she was. He gently took her hand and said, “No more suffering my child”. I have come to give you a rest.
Patricia Ann Lowman was born in the Reading Hospital in Reading, Pennsylvania. On Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 12:10 p.m. in the Ecumenical Retirement Community, Building 2, Room 105. She heard the whisper and accepted the call and went to be with her Lord and Savior.
Pat, as she was affectionately known, was a loving daughter to her beautiful mother and would often speak of the love she had for her. She once shared two instances, (which she didn’t do often), about the overprotectiveness her mother had for her. First, never in her life having the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike, and second when she asked her mother if she could leave school to get married. Even though her mother displayed some opposition on both she blessed Pat with the opportunity to temporarily leave school and marry the man that would become the love of her life.
Patricia Ann entered holy matrimony to Eldred Eugene Lowman. This union did not produce any biological children, but they acquired many nieces and nephews through family and friends. She became known as Aunt Pat, Patty, Patty Ann, Patty Cakes and Aunt Patsy, she loved all which she came to know. Whenever she heard any of those names, she responded with her infectious smile and a hearty laugh but the one name she loved to hear called most was “Miss Patricia”, which was the term of endearment by her debonair and handsome husband.
During her early education, Pat was a proud graduate of Reading Senior High, Class of 1951. She went on to further her education at Howard University, Penn State Extension, Kutztown University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts Degree from Shippensburg Teacher’s College, now Shippensburg University. She excelled academically and made it a mission to help others to do the same.
Mrs. Lowman had a passion for nurturing young minds. She served as a Child Development Specialist in Reading, PA. A few years later, she gained employment with her first teaching position in the Reading School District but left shortly thereafter when she obtained employment with the Harrisburg School District, Harrisburg, PA as a first grade teacher until her date of retirement with a total of 28 years of service teaching, mentoring and tutoring while making the difference in the lives of so many students that attended Foose Elementary and Benjamin Franklin Academic Prep Schools.
Patricia’s deep faith was instilled in her from a young age as she attended church with her mother and Aunt Frances, (who she loved) at Zion Baptist Church, Reading, PA where she first came to know the Lord. Her spiritual journey continued when she moved to Harrisburg, PA. Pat became a member of First Baptist, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and lastly a member of Monumental A.M.E. Church all of Steelton, Pennsylvania. One thing for certain about Mrs. Lowman is she would let you know she loved the Lord, the church and being a member of the choir by lifting her beautiful voice, singing the praises of Zion for all to hear.
In February 1996, Pat experienced the loss of her beloved husband that she loved so dearly. This was a difficult time for her, but she held onto her faith trusting and believing God would bring her through her weeping moments to joy.
Further enriching her life and the life of others, through the community, Patricia was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Harrisburg Alumnae Chapter for 52 years, and the 14th President of the Chapter during the years 1979-81. She served on the Minerva Circle and assisted in the chapter charter for Shippensburg University, NU NU Chapter, Shippensburg, PA, and Rho Iota, Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA and many committees throughout her years of service. Soror Lowman enjoyed working with the Betty Shabazz Academy and her very favorite committee, Reading is Fundamental (RIF). In her leisure time, Pat loved to travel and visited many different countries, including but not limited to, Africa, Puerto Rico, and Aruba to name a few with her beloved husband, friends and sorority sisters. She became a worldwide traveler and enjoyed every place she visited until her health prevented her from doing so.
In addition to her husband, Eldred Eugene Lowman; her mother, Dorothy (Brinkley) Greer and her father, William Greer, she was preceded in death by her uncles and aunts and some very close friends.
Pat is survived by a cousin, Anita Perkins of Reading, Pennsylvania. She also leaves to cherish precious memories of her that loved and adored her, Juanita Curtis, Monica Mack Chisholm, Valerie Bates Gates, Dormayne Copko and Jeannine Peterson. As well as a host of sorority sisters, close family and friends.
Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

I met Mrs. Lowman through her Aunt Frances Thomas, and we broke bread together, as well as sang Spiritual Hymns together. She has prepared my "Steak" much to my surprise just how I preferred. I am just recently finding out of her " Home Going" to be reunited with Her loved ones! I thank Almighty God for the opportunity to have met her and because of our Belief in the Birth, death, an "RESURRECTION" of Our Savior Christ Jesus we are (Assured) to see one another in "ETERNITY!"
