Celebrating the Life of Shannon Bellamy
Shannon Frederick Bellamy, age 44, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, friendship, football and mentorship.
Shannon was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Frederick “Fred” and Mary Bellamy. Shannon spent his early years attending Holy Family School which was his home parish for many years. From an early age, Shannon developed a love for sports excelling in baseball, basketball and football under the guidance of his father, who was also his coach in youth sports. He made many fond memories with Boyer East Local 520 youth baseball. Football, however, was a passion that would remain an important part of his life for many years.
Shannon graduated from Central Dauphin East High School, where he distinguished himself as a talented student-athlete and standout member of the football team. Proudly wearing #75, Shannon made his presence known on the field through his strength, determination, and love for the game.
Following high school, Shannon continued both his education and his football journey at Delaware State University, where he played collegiate football sporting #78, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications. His years as an athlete helped shape the discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership that he carried with him throughout his life. He also fostered lifelong friendships with several of his teammates.
Professionally, Shannon built a career with 20 years of service at Norfolk Southern Corp., where he worked as a Yardmaster. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
On May 21, 2011, Shannon married LaToya Winfield Bellamy. During their 15 years of marriage, they shared a life filled with love, family and lasting memories through family trips and tons of youth, high school, collegiate and professional sporting events. Shannon was the proud father to his son, Jamaal Quincy Bellamy, and through his union with LaToya they were blessed with a daughter, Isley Marie Bellamy. His children were an important part of his life and his legacy.
Football was more than a game to Shannon—it was part of who he was. An avid football fan, Shannon proudly supported his favorite NFL team, the Miami Dolphins and college team, the Miami Hurricanes. However, his love for the game extended far beyond watching it.
Shannon, affectionately known as “Coach Bell,” found great joy in teaching, mentoring, and developing young athletes. In his spare time, he gave back to the sport that had given him so much by coaching at several levels. His coaching experience included former head coach of the semi-professional Harrisburg Sharks, as well as assistant coach of football programs at Central Dauphin East High School, Bishop McDevitt High School and most recently Harrisburg High School.
Through coaching, Shannon was able to share not only his knowledge of football but also lessons about hard work, discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and believing in yourself. The young men he coached and mentored became another important part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Shannon will be remembered for his quiet strength, loyalty and love for family. Those who knew him will especially remember his competitive nature and how much he enjoyed friendly sports banter.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, LaToya; his children, Jamaal and Isley; his parents, Fred and Mary Bellamy; his siblings, Frederick Bellamy, Jr. (Arleen), Carla Jimah (Zubairu), Danielle Bellamy Shepherd (Lonnie) and Tammeron Cobb (Kevin); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, fellow coaches, former players, coworkers and dear friends.
While Shannon's time with us was far too short, the impact of his life cannot be measured simply in years. His legacy can be found in the family he loved, the friendships he built, the players he coached, the lives he influenced, and the countless memories that will continue to be shared.
The sound of the whistle may have quieted, and Coach Bell may have left the field, but his influence, love, and legacy will remain forever. Rest well, Shannon. Your work here is complete, but your legacy will continue to play on.
Shannon’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 S. 19th St., Harrisburg, PA 17104; Visitation:9:30 a.m.; Funeral:11:00 a.m. Interment in William Howard Day Cemetery, 801 Lincoln St., Steelton, PA 17113.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Bellamy Family as we mourn the loss of our great friend Shannon. Shannon was my best friend since moving to Harrisurg. We worked together and lived together in Enola from the end of 2008 to the middle of 2011. He was an amazing friend and always could brighten up the day with his humor and laughs. He was a good friend of the family and often checked in on my wife and kids during my military deployments. Shannon was present at Harriaburg Airport at midnight Veterans Day with Latoya when I returned from home Afghanistan in 2012. During the last few years Shannon and I would get together once or twice a month for breakfast or lunch to catch up and talk about events going on in our lives. He was a breath of fresh air when I would need advice or an ear to listen. He always made time to meet up, chat, and spend time together. He was my closest friend and he will be sorely missed. He was a blessing to all who encountered him. Part of him will live on in everyone who knew and loved him. Rest in Peace Shannon.
