Obituary For Mrs. Sarah Ashley Nichols

Mrs. Sarah Ashley Nichols was born March 17, 1928, the only child born to the union of Clevest Joe and Blanch Barnes Ashley. She was of the Baptist Faith and held to detection of being the oldest member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. A faithful and dutiful member of Pilgrim Rest, where she worked in the Women’s Missionary Society, the Hospitality Committee, and the Usher Board.

Mrs. Nichols was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed gardening, crafting, cooking for family and friends.

She attended Richard B. Harrison High School and Arkansas Baptist Preparatory College in Little Rock. Mrs. Nichols retired from the Blytheville School District after serving as cafeteria manager at Robinson Primary School, where she ensured that nutritious, delicious meals were prepared for many children and staff members.

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, Mrs. Nichols peacefully entered the arms of the Lord from her home and was welcomed into her heavenly home by her parents, Clevest Joe and Blanch Barnes Ashley; her husband of 73 years, Bennie; her sons, Cleve Bennie and Billy Nichols; her grandchildren, Daniel Nichols and Shawnette Brown; and her sons-in-law, Cedric Brown and Marcus Cannon.

She leaves to forever cherish precious memories, four sons, Charles and Sharon Nichols of O’Fallon, Missouri; Joe and Rose Nichols, Brian and Venita Nichols, Ricky and Irene Nichols all of Blytheville, Arkansas; three daughters, Blanch Cannon of Marion, Indiana, Teretha Brown of Fort Worth, Texas; Angela and Charles Creggett of Lonoke, Arkansas; her chosen sister, Tommie Ware Taylor of Little Rock, Arkansas; her daughter in law, Betty Nichols of Blytheville, Arkansas; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church family, other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 11, 2026, starting at 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 809 East Main Street, where Rickey Everett is the pastor.

The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Minister Charles Creggett II of New Zion Grove Worship Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will take place at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in Birdeye, Arkansas, on Monday, October 12, 2026, 12:00 noon.
