Mrs. Walter Rean Bowens Mitchell, born on March 10, 1931, in Prairie, Mississippi, was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Henry Bowens Sr. and Jessie Simmons Bowens. She faithfully attended First Missionary Baptist Church, earning recognition as the churchβs oldest member. Actively involved, Mrs. Mitchell participated in the Womenβs Missionary Society and served as a mother of the Church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, solving puzzles, and spending time with friends at the Mississippi County Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Mitchell was a part of the Blytheville School District Cafeteria staff until she retired.
On Saturday, January 17, 2026, she transitioned at her home at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Mitchell, Sr., her son, Rozium Mitchell, and two daughters, Beverly Ann Fisher, and Bennie Fay Carmon, her sister, Williease Thompson, and a brother-in-law, LaSalle Thompson.
Her love , her life, and her legacy will forever be cherished by her sons, Rufus (Lorrain) Mitchell, Jr. of Blytheville, Arkansas; Rupert (Margaret) Mitchell, and Bernard (Patricia) Mitchell also of Blytheville, Arkansas; two daughters, Juanita Whitmore of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Dominique Boyd of Blytheville, Arkansas; her daughter in law, Minnie Mitchell of Blytheville, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 12:00 until services begin at 1:00 pm at First Missionary Baptist Church, 600 East McHaney Drive, Blytheville, Ar. Where Reverend Odale Jones is the pastor.
Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Odale Jones will deliver the eulogy, with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs Mitchell was more than just a mother, grandma, she was a very sweet and beautiful spirit woman of God, that would tell it like it was, and she has given me words of encouragement in a time when I needed it most, so grandma take your rest, you will be greatly missed.
