HONORING THE LIFE OF MS. MARTHARINE LESTER
(Family Tribute & Words of Comfort)
Today we gather to honor the life of Ms. Martharine Lester β a woman whose heart stretched far beyond her own family and reached into ours. She wasn't just a friend to my mom Ann, to Mary, and to my dad Joel... she was family. She was a second mother to me, to Steven, to Katherine, and to Laporche. She loved us like her own, and we felt that love every time she walked into a room.
Ms. Martharine had a way of showing up exactly when you needed her. She carried wisdom, strength, and a quiet kind of comfort that made heavy moments feel lighter. When our dad, Joel Brockman, passed away, she didn't just stand with us β she held us up. She prayed with us, cried with us, and helped us find peace when our hearts were breaking. She helped our family cope in ways we will never forget.
We're going to miss her at every family event. Her laughter. Her presence. Her spirit. Her way of making everyone feel seen and loved.
But even though she won't be sitting in the chair she always chose... her love will still be there. Her voice will still echo in our memories. Her kindness will still guide us. And her legacy will still live through every person she touched.
To Ms. Martharine: Thank you. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for being a mother when we needed one, a friend when we were hurting, and a blessing we will never forget.
We love you. We honor you. And we will carry your spirit with us for the rest of our lives.
May God welcome you home with open arms. May you rest in peace, wrapped in His glory. And may your memory continue to shine through every life you touched.
She was a tough love kinda Marine but heavy on Tough and Love. She did remind you of a Auntie that gave it to you with no sugar added. Even when I was an NCO she would mentor and guide me on how we ( NCO's and higher) had to focus on taking care of our Marines that are under our care and protection. I've always stood on that and lead with that as well. Rest in power
I was lucky enough to meet and learn about Ms. Lester through befriending her son. Ms. Lester always held her head high, said exactly what she meant, and never flinched at hard work. She had the kind of unshakeable steadiness I wanted to learn, something I saw inherited in her daughter's posture in our brief path crossings. Ms. Lester was kind, kind enough to invite a scrappy kid in a rough situation to celebrate the 4th with her family. The way she lit up when she laughed at the table reminds me so much of Stephen. I wish her every peace as she lays to rest and her family the warmest memories of her.

Dear God, thank You for this new day and for being close to me even in seasons of grief and loss. Your word in Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." God, just like Abraham, I don't want my pain to be the end of my story. Help me hold tighter to the people still in my life and turn what I've lost into a purpose that keeps me moving forward. The grief is real and I'm not pretending it isn't, but I trust that You can take my pain and use it to fuel the next chapter of my life. Help me wake up today ready to refire, not retire, because the best is still ahead of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. -Psalm 30:5
