Mary Genice Atterberry was born on December 30, 1962, in Blytheville, Arkansas to James and Mary Lee Jones Atterberry. Mary was an active member of New Jerusalem Christian Fellowship Church where she served as a member of the beautification ministry, the finance ministry, and the choir. Mary was a graduate of Blytheville High School class of 1981 and completed her bachelor’s degree at Arkansas State University. She was a former employee of Mississippi County Arkansas E.O.C. Head Start, where she worked as a preschool teacher.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, James Atterberry, and brothers, James Cecil Atterberry and Bennie Lee Atterberry. Her beautiful soul transitioned on Thursday December 4, 2025, at Gosnell Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 62.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her devoted mother, Mrs. Mary L. Atterberry of Blytheville, Arkansas; her brothers, Walter Atterberry of Chicago, Illinois and Douglas Atterberry of Blytheville, Arkansas; her sisters, Lula (LeOdis) Louden of Shawnee, Illinois, Myra Bernard of Fairfax, Virginia, Albertine Rhodes of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Sondra Atterberry of Blytheville, Arkansas; as well as a very special nephew, De’Ondre Atterberry, also of Blytheville, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:00 until services begin at 12:00 noon at New Jerusalem Christian Fellowship Church, 1215 East Street, Blytheville, Arkansas where Reverend James Jones is the pastor.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon. Pastor James Jones will deliver the eulogy with interment following in Gethsemane Gardens Cemetery.
