Obituary For Mylas Jeffers

On Saturday, March 9, 2019 Mylas C. Jeffers Jr. died at his home in Blytheville. Mylas was born on June 1, 1942 in Forrest City, AR to M. C. and F. M. Jeffers. He graduated from Lincoln High School, earned a Bachelor Degree from the AM&N College (UAPB), earned the MSE in Counselor Education, and did further study at the University of Memphis. Mylas enjoyed his career in Education only to begin Counseling at both the secondary and Higher Education levels. He retired from Education with over 50 years of experience. Mylas loved listening to music, reading and spending quality time with his beloved wife, Sue. He also enjoyed being the voice of reason that calmed volatile situations. Though he was a man of few words, his expressions were filled with passion, warmth and wisdom. Mylas, served Mississippi County diligently on several imperative committees and as steward at Carter Temple CME Church in Blytheville. He was a mentor in the Local Big Brothers Program and held membership in the NAACP and the V25 Club. He was also an active member in the Xi Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Mylas was preceded in death by his father, M. C. Jeffers, his mother, F. M. Jeffers and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Jeffers. He is survived by his wife Mary Sue of the home, one sister, Chaney J. Murry of Forrest City, AR, one brother, Michael Jeffers of Forrest City, AR, two brothers-in-law, Herman (Maxcine) Strickland of Jonesboro, AR and Jimmie (Eva) Strickland of Fayetteville, GA, sister-in-law Earlene Strickland of Porter, IN, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at First Missionary Baptist Church, 600 East McHaney Street, Blytheville, AR. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon at First Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Odale Jones, Pastor. Dr. Jeff Flanigan will officiate, Presiding Elder Ronald Williams will deliver the eulogy. Entombment at Dogwood Mausoleum. Arrangements by McDonald-Horne Funeral Home. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
