My dear friend Beverly, just finding out about your passing. I will forever cherish our friendship and all the memories we shared. From working on Rikers Island, caring for your daughter Janice, the wild baby shower you gave me when I was pregnant 50 years ago, our years in the Army Reserve and our travels to the Caribbean. You introduced me to my husband. What a time we had. Our last conversation was a few months ago and we laughed about some of our wild times and celebrating our birthdays that are 2 days apart. You were my boss, my mentor and my friend. Rest well my dear friend. You blessed me.

I attended CCNY with Beverly and we have been friends since. I considered her my big sister. I will mix our talks, her counsel would be spot on. Rest in peace and power my dear friend. 🙏🏾💗🙏🏾

Ms. Ellis, The word that comes to mind when I think of you is "resilient." Inside of just a few minutes of meeting you, I knew you had a certain bounce-back, a certain determination, a toughness, an assurance...

You lived your amazing life on your terms, and most people don't have the courage to do that. It's one of the many things that set you apart from the rest.

All I can say right now is that I am extremely sad that you are gone, but I am so very, very glad that you were here, made your mark, paid your dues, lived your life and impacted so many other lives. I count myself blessed and fortunate to have met you, broken bread with you, shared with you, learned from you, and experienced the awesome, beautiful and phenomenal woman that you are. You will live forever in my heart and in my thoughts.

They say that iron sharpens iron; I definitely feel sharper having listened and learned from you. Rest in peace, lovely lady.

Beverly, you remain the strongest and most beautifully determined Black woman I've had the privilege of knowing. Your survival instincts, helping you to overcome trauma, disappointments and setbacks remain legendary. Rest with the universe dear Bev, others will still be learning from the tracks that you layed long after you've gone.
