James Locke was born December 11, 1942 in Ocala, Florida to the late Reafus and Ollie Locke. He was the fourth of twelve children. Five siblings preceded him in death. After locating to South Florida, The family attended New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Hollywood, Fl. James known as Pap to friends and family attended Attucks High School in Hollywood, Fl and was a proud graduate of the class of 1961. After high school, he was a chauffeur for the famous Meekins family, who are leaders in the construction and cement industry. Pap went on to further his education by attending college at Tuskegee University, a historically black university in Tuskegee, Alabama. In 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army and was the recipient of numerous medals, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. In August of 1968 he married Eunice Jackson and together they had two children, Dionne and Marlo. He also was employed with Delta Airlines for a number of years. Pap became a Mason at the Pride of Hollywood Masonic Lodge #601 in Hollywood, Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing racquetball, basketball and a good game of dominoes, which he liked to call bones.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Dionne Redding (Norris) Pembroke Pines, Fl. ; Sons: Greg Holcombe, Tampa , Fl. and Marlo Locke Lake Worth, Fl. ; grandchildren: Khambrel Holcombe and Jaylen Redding; great grandchildren: Khambrel Holcombe Jr. and Karon Holcombe; sister: Carolyn Locke Sopal ,Orange Park , Fl. ; brothers: Robert Locke (Jennie) Jacksonville, Fl. , Nathaniel Locke, Jacksonville, Fl., David Locke (Gwendolen) Palm Coast, Fl., Reafus Locke Jr. ,Killeen, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
