Obituary For Josephine Mitchell

Josephine Sylvia Mitchell was born on December 8, 1936 in the parish of Saint Catherine on the island of Jamaica. She is the daughter of Colin Mitchell and Ethel Lewin. At the age of twenty seven she married her first love Llewelyn Mitchell. In 1968 Josephine migrated to the United States with her late husband Llewelyn Mitchell. For a brief time she left her two daughters Marvalyn and Sandra in Jamaica while she and Llewelyn settled in the United States. Josephine had a passion to help others look their best. As a result, she studied cosmetology at Fredericks Hairstyling Academy in Fort Lauderdale and became a licensed cosmetologist. She spent many years working at The Hair Cuttery styling her customers while providing a side of wisdom and laughter. She would often try new styles and techniques on her daughter and granddaughters hair. Josephine was never one to be afraid of taking chances. She proved that once she re-dedicated her life to the Lord, got baptized, and married her longtime love Harold Garrick (Smokey) at the ripe age of 70. Together they spent their days loving each other, the family and most importantly the Lord.

In the evening of Sunday, May 12, 2019, The Lord call Josephine home to rest. She is being mourned by her husband Harold Garrick, her oldest daughter Maralynn Nelson, Sandra Aranevia, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Josephine was preceded in death by brothers Willie, and Bertie, sisters Janet and Claudia, and grandson Leon. Josephine is survived by her husband, Harold Garrick (Smokey), her daughters Marvalyn and Sandra, her sister Merlin, her grandchildren George, Tiesha, Tyrone, Lacelia, Claudie, Anton, Natasha, and Latoya as well as 28 great grandchildren. The life she lived was a life that demonstrated that love is all we need and that the Lord is the answer for all things.
