Obituary Our shining star, Maxie S. Shakir, was born on December 8, 1950 to the late Jimmy Dawson and the late Lillian Jackson in Avon Park, Florida. As a young child she was raised in Dunnellon, Florida, and was also baptized there at Union Baptist Church. A little later, Maxie moved permanently to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she grew up and established her life. In 1968, Maxie graduated from Dillard High School and soon after married her beloved, the late Khalid A. Shakir (Arthur Mobley). To their union they were blessed with four children. Throughout her adult life, Maxie worked in the electronics industry, as a licensed cosmetologist, owned a home daycare business, then later retired as a medical biller. Her enthusiasm for life was certainly vested in enjoying her grandchildren; that was her joy. She was certainly a woman of strength, determination, kindness, courage, purpose, honesty, family and faith. She was always genuinely willing to help and encourage others. Furthering her spiritual life, Maxie rededicated her life to the Lord in the fall of 2015 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, the Lord called our angel home. She leaves to cherish her loving memory and carry on her beautiful family traditions her siblings Thelma Rainer, Henry Jackson, Jr., Roderick Jackson (Anna), her children Jamillah Shakir, Al-yasha Shakir (Angela), Sultan Shakir, and Khalid Shakir (Latoya), two stepchildren Howard Spry and Tracy Ross, thirteen grandchildren, a great grandson; a loving companion, Johnnie Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
