Mother Mattie Lee Jones, 94, of Decatur, Georgia departed this life Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at her residence in Decatur, Georgia.
Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in the 3rd Kiokee Baptist Church, 527 Carver Ave, Albany, Georgia 31701.
Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, 200 Cotton Ave, Albany, Georgia 31701.
Mattie Lee Jones, age 94, departed this life on June 4, 2025 quietly at the home of her daughter, Jenny Jones. Mattie Lee Jones was born on January 11, 1931, to the late Clinton and Gussie Simmons of Baker County, Georgia.
Mattie was educated in the Baker County School System and later attended Albany Technical College and received her Certified Nursing Assistant diploma as well as a diploma in Sewing and Drapery. Mattie Jones worked in those fields and later became a bus driver for the Dougherty County School System.
At an early age Mattie joined Salem Baptist Church but later changed her membership to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mattie was joined in matrimony to the late George Jones and unto the union they had two children. Mattie loved her family and everyone around her knew that she would do anything for those she loved.
In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband George Jones and siblings Will , Leo Frank , James , Morris, Paris, Booker T, Margret, Clinton, Charlotte, and Annie.
Left to cherish her loving memories are her two children Wiliie Frank Jones (Sharon) of Albany, Ga and Jenny Jones of Decatur Georgia, three grandchildren who she loved as her own, Willie (Towanda) Jones Jr of Loganville, Troylene Johnson (Darius) of Athens Georgia, Ga and LaQuay (Bridgette) Jones, Sr. of Hampton, Ga., seven great grand (one proceeded her in death) two sisters Odessa Reynolds of Wintergreen Florida and Ozzie Wimes of Albany, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
