Mildred Butts Ingram Sneed was born on October 30, 1927, in Sumter County, Georgia, to the parentage of the late Edgar and Eunice Smith Butts. She joined the Perry Grove Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend B. J. Darmon. Mildred was educated in the public schools of Leslie, GA. and A. S. Staley Middle School of Americus, GA. She met and married the late Noise Ingram, Sr. To this union, one son was born. In 1947, after his demise, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Augustus Sneed. They spent 48 wonderful years together until he transitioned to his heavenly home.
Along her 96-year journey, she worked diligently on the family farm and devoted her life to providing a loving, caring home for her family and friends. Mildred served many roles in her lifetime. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, homemaker, and most of all, she was an awesome cook! Many days, she was found in her kitchen, where she excelled as she prepared awesome meals. She also enjoyed gardening and arraying her porch with beautiful flowers. She enjoyed talking on the phone to everyone. Her phone was silenced from one o'clock until three o'clock because at that time she was watching her “soap operas.”
Mildred was a Christian woman. She loved the Lord and would attend church almost every Sunday. She found joy in the word of God and talked of him daily. She served faithfully in the Jackson Grove and Perry Grove Baptist Church. She was an active member on the usher and mission board and fulfilled the duties as choir secretary. Lastly, she served as Mother of the Perry Grove Baptist Church. She embodied these words, “May the works I’ve done speak for me!”
On Monday morning, August 12, 2024, she heard a voice saying, “Servant of God, well done! Rest from thy love employ; the battle fought, the victory won; enter thy master's joy.” Preceding her in death were her parents, Edgar and Eunice Butts; siblings, Ulysses, James, Gennie, Edgar Jr., Janie Ruth, and Bernice; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Bobbie Sneed Roberson.
Mildred leaves many fond memories to her brothers, Eddie Butts and Wilbert Butts; sisters, Thelma (Freddie) Evans, and Bobbie Jean Wise; sons, Willie (Dorothy) Sneed and Robert (Jacqueline) Sneed; godson, Augustus (Yolanda) Battle; devoted godson, Benjamin (Rosa) Sneed; goddaughters, Violet McIntosh, Sherryl (Wille) King, Annette Burns, and Carolyn Roberson; and devoted niece, Lawana (Gail) Peoples.
Other surviving family members include, Dorothy Sneed of Tampa,
FL, Shirley Bailey, Tonya Davis, Elaine Hicks, and Latoya Cutts; sister- in-law, Mary Tiny Butts; many loving friends, neighbors, and cousins,
Mary L. Jackson, Ida J. Carter, James and Dorothy McCray, Emily Smith, Evelyn Wright, Minnie King, Bertha Dice, Mary Nelson, and Edna Champion; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the Perry Grove and Jackson Grove Baptist Church families; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members too numerous to list but who are never, ever forgotten.
Her godsisters include Betty Waters, Edna Champion, Bertha Dice, Eula Merritt, and Marie Wright; godsons, Reverend Eugene Hall, Deacon Otis Westbrook, Joe Clark, and Everett Sadzwick; and goddaughters, Louise Barthell, Kathleen Monts, Marilyn Brown, and Brenda Sadzwick.
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” Revelation 22:21
