Mr. Angus Selvester Worthy affectionately known as “Hank” began his journey of life on September 7, 1943, as the third child of Otis and Ola B Hicks Worthy of Reynolds, Georgia. Raised in a loving home, he developed strong values of faith, hard work, and community that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Eureka High School in Butler, Georgia, in 1961, where he excelled both academically and socially. His thirst for knowledge led him to Fort Valley State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.
With a deep sense of duty and service, Hank proudly joined the United States Army, where he served as a dedicated drill sergeant. His leadership, discipline, and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on the soldiers he trained. He carried these values beyond the military into every aspect of his life.
Following his honorable service, Hank pursued a career in business and entrepreneurship, managing operations at several well-known companies, including McGregor, Brown & Williamson, Lockheed Martin, and Firestone. His work ethic, keen business acumen, and leadership skills allowed him to make meaningful contributions in each role. However, one of his most enduring legacies was his 30 years of dedicated service to the Lee County Board of Elections. Passionate about democracy, he worked tirelessly to ensure fair elections and encouraged everyone he met to exercise their right to vote. His influence in civic engagement extended far beyond his official duties, as he inspired countless individuals to take an active role in their communities.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Hank had a deep love for nature and found joy in gardening. He took pride in beautifying yards and cultivating vibrant landscapes, often sharing his gardening knowledge with family and friends. A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader who stayed informed on current events, history, and politics. His intellectual curiosity and commitment to personal growth made him a source of wisdom and insight to those around him.
Hank’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. From an early age, he dedicated himself to Christ and nurtured a strong spiritual relationship with God. He began his faith journey at Mt. Gillard Baptist Church in Reynolds, Georgia, where he served in various capacities and played an active role in the church community. Later, he attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, where he continued to serve and worship God faithfully. His unwavering faith, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring spiritual legacy.
He cherished his family and took great pride in their accomplishments, always offering encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love. His presence brought warmth and strength to those around him, and his legacy of faith, perseverance, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I want to share my thoughts about our family member Angus(Cousin/Uncle). Angus was one of our most outstanding family leaders, leading with great knowledge and understanding. No matter the family situation, he always tried to uplift all family members. He extended his support to our family during my time of grief with my father, his uncle Claude B.Hick and when I lost my brother Irinn Hick. He helped guide us and extended his support throughout the funeral process. He was part of the arrangement, which was meaningful and valuable to us and shows that the most important people will step up even if no one else will.
He was a carer, a nurturer, and an encourager; he was well-informed about the world, and no one could ever replace his guidance on life. Whether it was a hard or joyous time, he was always reaching out and willing to help the family or anyone in need. He kept in touch throughout the years and consistently made time to connect.
I was very grateful that he understood the value of family. He took time with my son Quawan and stayed in communication and shared a lot of interest, deep passion and thoughtful conversation about finance and he loved sharing his wisdom on the topic. He was the kind of person who could lift your spirits, regardless of how your day was going. Angus knew how to get the most out of life; he was pure of heart, a trustworthy man of his word, and a blessing to all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
To his brothers and sisters Curtis, Walker, Cheryl, and Carrol, even though there will be sadness in the coming days, you should know your close bond with your brother Augus; his love and compassion will always be with you; Now, he is in heaven, where all pain will be subsidized. He has everything he needs and is on a new journey of enlightenment. Take the day one step at a time; his soul and purity will still be with you all your days.
To Jason and children, as you know, your father was so very proud of his children and his grandchildren. He always radiated happiness when he spoke about both all of you and his grandchildren. Now, you can continue his legacy by applying the lessons he taught you from childhood to adulthood, embracing his history and honoring his legacy, and remembering the steps he showed you to guide your path. He was a truly proud father and grandfather. His blood flows through your spirit and soul, so carry on the legacy and history he taught you. Take one day at a time, and remember the importance of your father's guidance and leadership.
Of course, to his fiancée Joanne, whom he later found in life to be a wonderful spiritual love, he was thrilled that she came into his life. He spoke highly of you to me every time we spoke. They enjoyed traveling and participating in adventurous activities, and he spoke highly of those experiences. You were always by his side no matter what, his caretaker and his nurturer and your love was acknowledged by the Lord, honoring their commitment to each other in sickness and in health, embracing the joys of love, and always demonstrating how much love was present. God recognized that Joanne had done an excellent job, allowing them to share love throughout their time on earth together. It was a true inspiration, a testament to love, and a strong commitment. The love and goodness he experienced on earth from her, he took with him to heaven.
Love you Claudell, Quawan, Chaquan , China and the rest of the NEW YORK NEW YORK Hicks/Smith Family
I am so sad to hear of Angus' passing. Angus was a true gentleman and I enjoyed working with him for many years while he was on the Lee County Board of Elections and Registration. Angus was always fair and a true asset to the board. Prayers for peace and comfort are lifted up for all of his family.
