Mr. Walter Nelson Dukes, Jr., 80, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. in the Shiloh Baptist Church, 325 W. Whitney Ave, Albany, Georgia 31701.
Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Interment will follow Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 2:30 PM in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.
Paschal Memorial Funeral Home, 181 N. Church St, Jeffersonville, Georgia 31044 will be in charge.
On February 11, 1945, WALTER N. DUKES, JR., was born to the parentage of the late Walter N. Dukes, Sr., and Bessie Whitfield Dukes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Woodward High School. In 1963, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served six years, including 18 months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with a rank of Sergeant. In 1970, he joined the Albany Police Department. He retired from APD as a Captain in 1990. He worked as an agent from Independent Life Insurance Company for six years. Afterward, he joined the US Marshals Service as a court security officer.
He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he sang with the male chorus. He organized and served on the church’s security team until his health prevented him from serving.
Walter departed this life on May 18, 2025, at his home.
His memories will always be cherished by his wife, Patricia Chatman Dukes of Albany, GA; daughters, Renee Jackson (Byron) of Tallahassee, FL, Carletha Parson (Earnest) of Tifton, GA, and Jackie Cunningham (Michael) of Covington, GA; son, Christopher Cooper of Riverdale, GA; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; three sisters, Denise Dukes, Jannah Jacqueline Gilbert, and LaShonda Dukes of Cincinnati, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends.
