The celebration of life for Mrs. Gwendolyn Foster Boone is a tapestry woven from the threads of kindness, resilience, laughter, and love in her existence on earth. The fifth child of the late Elijah Watt Foster and the late Daisy Grier Foster, “Gwen” as she was affectionately called by family and friends was born on April 8, 1939, in Albany, GA.
Education was a cornerstone of her journey. A passionate learner, Gwendolyn excelled in her studies as she attended the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe High School, Class of 1957. Her thirst for knowledge led her to attend Albany State College (now Albany State University) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Gwen furthered her education by earning a Master of Arts in Education from Georgia State University. Armed with these degrees, she worked tirelessly with boys and girls in the Terrell County School System, always inspiring them to do their best.
She was married to the late Jesse Boone, Sr. Their union was blessed with five children. A son, Jesse, Jr. preceded her in death.
Her Christian journey began at Mercer St. Seventh day Adventist Church and continued when the church moved to its present location and became the Emanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church. As a member of Emanuel, Gwendolyn’s service was a guiding principle. She served faithfully as a Sabbath School Superintendent, Sabbath School teacher, choir member, and usher. Gwen was always willing to assist where needed.
Left to cherish her memory, honor her example, and continue the legacy of a life well lived are her children: Dr. Albradella Regina (Elbert) Davis, Eric Keith Boone, Reta Cozette (Danny) Chandler, Michael Antione Boone; grandchildren, Jeremy (Courtney) Boone, Dr. Yashika Harvey, Tyrone (Jada) Harris, Yolanda Nicole Boone (Danny) Abney, Scherrie Davis, Corey Boone, Jaylon Boone, Ryan (Kristen) Chandler; great- grandchildren, JeMyra, Kotlon, Elijah, Tobias, Kehlanie, Kennedy, Tyrone,Jr., London, Paris, Daniel, Jr; a brother, Elijah Foster, a sister, Jeanette Foster Warren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
