Obituary For Mrs. Wanda Perry Cheeks

Mrs. Wanda Perry Cheeks, 72, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia

Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 901 S. Westover Blvd., Albany, Georgia 31721.

Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, 200 Cotton Avenue, Albany, Georgia 31701.

Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

WANDA KATRINA PERRY CHEEKS, also known as “Mommie,” was born on March 6, 1953, to the late Willie and Emma Stokes Perry in Albany, Georgia. Wanda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

Wanda is a product of the Dougherty County school system, where she graduated in 1971 from Albany High School. Upon graduation, she attended the Albany State (College) University, majoring in Elementary Education. Wanda began her career in Randolph County before being hired at West Town Elementary and Morningside Elementary schools. While working, she began her tutorial services for many youngsters until last school term. Her impact on these students was one that is unforgettable. They can be found in their various successful endeavors.

Wanda joined the Friendship Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choirs and was active in all other Christian educational activities. Later, Wanda joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a bubbling greeter and member of the Willing Workers Ministry.

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Wanda departed her earthly home peacefully. She is survived by her devoted husband, Milton Cheeks; four children, Sylinda (Donald) Brown of Columbus, GA, Victor Jonte’ Perry of Aurora, CO, Melvin Jerod Cheeks, and Milton Jamaal Cheeks of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Linda (Nathaniel) Godwin; Wanda was the proud grandmother of thirteen vivacious grandchildren and three great- granddaughters; godmother, Evelyn Hudson; godsister, Kaye Hudson McKendrick; and godbrother, Victor Hudson. Wanda’s first born, Zatambra LaShounde Milner, preceded her in death.

Numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and a host of friends are also numbered as survivors.

Everyday she brought her motivation, smiles, encouragement and most definitely class participation. Mrs Cheeks was my teacher and church member at Mt. Zion.
