Obituary For Rev. Jimmy Lee Bryant

Rev. Jimmy Lee Bryant, 89, of Albany, Georgia and formerly of Nahunta, Georgia departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 901 S. Westover Blvd, Albany, Georgia 31701.

Interment will follow in the Masonic Cemetery, 26610 GA - 520 Waynesville, Georgia 31566.

REV. JIMMY LEE BRYANT was born June 4, 1935 to Causey Bryant and Ruby Lee Shaw Bryant Hightower in Nahunta, Georgia, he was the eldest of five children. He was educated in the Brantley County School System and graduated from Center High in Waycross, Georgia. Later in life, he married Barbara Jean Campbell. This family man with his wife nurtured the lives of many in the surrounding area, opening their home to children waiting to either be adopted or placed in permanent homes as they raised all of their blended family together.

Rev. Jimmy Lee Bryant, a man of God prayed and peacefully transcended this life to eternal life with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025 surrounded by his family and friends at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

Jimmy gave his life to Christ at an early age. When he was 10 years old, he read the hymn for his father that was a Deacon, but could not read and his father would lead the hymn, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”. As his life path continued to deepen spiritually, Jimmy became a servant in the Little Rock Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Youth Pastor, Assistant Pastor, and then Pastor after the retirement of the late Pastor Clarence Taylor (who also ordained him as a minister). After moving to Albany, Georgia, Jimmy changed his membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Daniel Simmons with a church family that steps in with abundant love, gifts, and support.

For many years, Jimmy worked in numerous jobs. He was employed with the Huddle House and Family Dollar in Nahunta, Georgia. Also, he had an assignment as a personal chef in New York for a few years and the Gold Coast Restaurant. He retired from CSX railroad.

Jimmy was active in the community such as involvement with NAACP, Brantley County Civic Organization, Manager of a singing group “Gospel Stars” to name a few. He also was a Ward leader in the community Fowl Town Association under the leadership of Rev Malone. In 1994, he had to leave Nahunta, Georgia with his family and all his foster children who were housed at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Causey Bryant and Ruby Lee Shaw Bryant Hightower, his wife; Barbara Jean Campbell Bryant; his siblings, Luther Bryant, Wilbur Hightower, Causey Bryant, and Joyce Tumblin.

Rev. Jimmy Lee Bryant leaves to mourn the last surviving sibling that he called “The Boss” Mary B. Stephens; his son Allen Bryant, daughter Valarie Bryant Dasher, his beloved son, Daniel “Tiki” Bryant; his nephew, Albert Bryant (Teresa); his niece; Yolonda Atwater- Nixon (Anthony); two nephews that assisted with his needs, Arzoreion Bryant and Kamareion Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, foster children, and a few special friends to include, Rutha Harris, Emory Harris, Wildmon Bryant, and Delores Jackson.
