Deacon David Allen was born on March 31, 1932, in Jasper County, South Carolina, to the late John Dedrick Allen Sr. and Manilla Richardson Allen. After the passing of his mother when he was just two weeks old, he was lovingly raised by his sisters and other family members in New York before returning to South Carolina around the age of eight.
On June 20, 1953, he was united in holy matrimony to Betty Jean Smith. To this union, seven children were born: Shirley, Marvin, Dedrick, Anita, Kelvin, William, and David Dwayne. Together, they also lovingly adopted and raised two grandsons, David Sentell and Sedrick.
Although he had a deep love for farming and gardening, Deacon Allen dedicated many years to the construction industry throughout South Carolina. As a skilled bulldozer operator, he proudly shared stories of the many roadways, bridges, golf courses, and other projects he helped build.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Padgett Branch Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a Deacon until his passing. Deacon Allen loved the outdoors and found joy in farming, gardening, lawn care, and building. He could often be found riding his beloved John Deere tractor or relaxing beneath the shade tree, enjoying a cool breeze from his swing.
After a life well lived, God called him home on Friday, May 15, 2026, following a brief hospital stay. He was proud of the life he lived and the family he helped build. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Allen; his son, Marvin Allen; and his daughter, Shirley Youmans.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Dedrick (Patricia) Allen of Vallejo, Anita (Jerry) Spells of Pembroke, Kelvin of Savannah, William (Darrett) Allen of Atlanta, and David Dwayne Allen of Atlanta.
He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Allen of Texas; grandchildren: David Sentell (Doshia) Allen of Summerville, Maurice Allen of Atlanta, Shwn (Elise) Lawrence of Greenville, Kristopher Allen of Washington, Calvin (Terri) Allen of Charlotte, Sedrick (Tyesha) Allen of Washington, Tonisha (Deon) Jacobs of Columbia, Shannon Allen of Harlem, Candis Allen of Rochester, Daisha Ingram of Houston, Dedrick Christian (Tyesha) Allen of Los Angeles, William Anthony (Crystal) Allen of Atlanta, Eryka Henry of Atlanta, and Taylor Allen of Ridgeland, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
