Obituary For Mother Bernice Young

We have come to celebrate the life of Mother Bernice Young, who departed this life on Monday, November 22, 2021. She was born in Allendale County, South Carolina, on December 16, 1938 to the late Holsey Young and the late Elizabeth Bolden. She was raised in the Barton Community of Allendale County.

She was educated in the public schools of Allendale County, and graduated from Allendale Training School, in 1956. Bernice then relocated to Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. She lived in New York until 2005 and then she returned to Barton to reside, until her passing.

At an early age, Bernice became a baptized member of St. Luke Baptist Church. She later became a baptized member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York, and she served in several capacities to included: Usher Board, Gospel Chorus, Pastor's Aide, and Assistant to the Sunday School Superintendent. Upon retirement and relocating back to South Carolina, Bernice rejoined at St. Luke Baptist Church, and she served faithfully on the Usher's Board until the pandemic occurred.

In addition, to her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by; (1) Brother: Stephen Young, Sr.; and (1) Sister-In-Law: Edith Penn Young.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, yet rejoicing in her legacy, (2) Nieces: Theresa Young, Fairfax "Barton Community," South Carolina; Regina (Bob) Gonzalez, Charlotte, NC; (3) Nephews: Uley Bradley, Ulmer, SC, Stephen (Yolonda) Young, Jr., Lexington, SC, and Keith (Crystal) Young, Goose Creek, SC; (1) Uncle: Ellis (Marie) Young, Sr., Cocoa, FL.; (3) Special Cousins: Dorothy )Wilmer) Giddens, Evelyn Wright and Carl Young; (2) Special Friends: Elizabeth Kirkland and Barbara Saxon. A host of other cousins, family and friends.
