Mary E. McKay was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on December 20, 1926, to the late Howard Jones and the late Luberta Jones. She lived most of her life in Los Angeles, California, before making South Carolina her home.

During her leisure time, Mother Mary enjoyed reading, listening to music, and spending
precious time with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She also took great pride in writing poetry. She was known for her love of cooking, especially butter beans and okra.

Mother Mary met and married the love of her life, the late Nathaniel McKay, Jr. To this union, one son was born, Clarence

In addition to her parents, Mother Mary was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Sebastian Parker.

Mother Mary went from labor to reward on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Pruitt Health in Estill, South Carolina. Though she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the beautiful legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories she leaves behind.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: (1) Son: Clarence (Donna) McKay; Denmark, SC; (3) Grandchildren: Michael McKay; Las Vegas, NV; Randy Salley (Mani Parker) Jr., Jacksonville, FL; Anglo (Daina) Gilyard; Gaston, SC; (5) Great–grandchildren: Shirvonne McKay; Pensacola, FL; Pasiah Gilyard, Xavion Gilyard, Javon Gilyard, all of
Gaston, SC; Kaleb Parker, Noah Salley, Jacksonville, FL; (1) Sisters: Lucy Dunlap; Los Angeles, CA; (1) Brother: Robert Jones; Los Angeles, CA; (4) Sisters–in–Law: Virginia Cornish; Aurora, CO; Wilma McFarlin; Dallas, TX; David McKay; Memphis, TX;
and Joe McKay; Arlington, TX. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and sympathizing friends.
