Yasmenda Singleton Redmon (affectionately called “Yassie”) was born June 22, 1982 to the late Marvin Jerome, Sr. and Gail Laverne Singleton in Frankfurt, Germany. She was called from labor to reward on October 3, 2024.
Yasmenda attended the Allendale County School System, graduating from Allendale-Fairfax High School in 2000. She then matriculated at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. She worked while attending college and helped to care for her beloved mother.
Yasmenda attended St. James AME Church in Fairfax, SC during her early years until adulthood. There, she served on the choir, Young People Development (YPD), the Steward Board, as well as being a special events and organization supporter. She changed her membership after she married Joel Redmon in 2017.
In 2011 Yasmenda welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. Nyla was her joy… her “mini me.” She was a devoted, loving, nurturing and doting mother.
Yasmenda was a kind hearted person with a warm and gentle smile. That smile was her brand and trade mark, which her love shined through. It would smooth the way for her and the hearts that really needed that love on any given day. She loved music. It calmed her down from the distractions of the world. She would often sing in the car as she traveled on the highways going to various destinations, seeing about her mom and family.
Reserved, yet humbled, speaks volumes about Yasmenda's character. Her willingness to assist and help others was her MO, or Method of Operation. Her kindness always started with that signature SMILE. Purple was her favorite color. It represented her vibrancy and royalty… a combination that made for happy days in her life.
Although Yasmenda was quiet, she was big on family. She enjoyed socializing in her own quiet fashion. You knew she was present by that SMILE and her laughter.
Yasmenda loved the Lord with all her heart and held strong to her faith… praising and worshipping God through it all. She touched so many lives with her kind and gentle spirit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, Henry Jr. and Hattie Sanders Singleton and her maternal grandparents, Jesse and Janie Simmons; one brother, Britton Singleton; three uncles and two aunts.
Yasmenda leaves to cherish fond memories: her daughter, Nyla Cynthia Monae Valentine; husband, Joel Redman; two sisters, Murcell Singleton and Victoria (Terrance) Fields, four brothers, Marvin Jerome Singleton, Jr., Cornelius (Lateefa) Singleton, Anthony Singleton and Keith Singleton; seven aunts; seven uncles; her mother-in-law, Jennifer Mungin Redmond, one goddaughter, Chantell Crafton; nieces, nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.
