~A Servant of God
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge, shall give me at that day...."II Timothy 4: 7-8
We pause here today, to pay our last respects to our departed love one, friend, and church family, who departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.
Rubin Gordon Sr. (affectionately called "Peenie" by his family and friends) was born the son of the late John Gordon and the late Alease Bolden Gordon in Estill, South Carolina and Twin Brother to Rufus Gordon Sr.
He was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina, graduating from Estill Training School in the year of 1967.
He was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church for twenty years in Manhattan, New York serving as a Trustee, Steward, and Usher. After relocating back to Estill, South Carolina Rubin and his family joined Martin Temple C.M.E. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend A. L. Scott. As he continued to serve God as his savior, he became a trustee as well as the church sexton.
On February 21, 1969, Rubin married the love of his life and sixth grade sweet heart Marie Smart Gordon. This union was blessed with two children.
He was employed many years in the State of New York as a Truck Driver retiring from Ruthig Trucking. After relocating back to South Carolina, he became employed with Gator's BBQ in Estill, South Carolina assisting with catering, making deliveries, and custodial work. He also was a staff member for Garvin and Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, South Carolina , until his health declined.
Rubin had a passion for football, coaching, cheering at the many games as his grandson played for victory. His love for family, friends, and his church family was like no other.
"The future is not ours to know, and it may never be, so let us give our best, never anticipating or doubting the power of our Savior; asking nothing of tomorrow except...THY WILL BE DONE."
Our loved one has been taken, but God has gained another angel. On Monday morning, Rubin was called home to be with the lord. Peace comes to us knowing that he is not suffering with pain and hopelessness. As he enters his new life, he will be greeted with love from his parents, his siblings: Arthur, Johnny Lee, Harry, Willie Lee, Robert Lee, and Learlene.
For those we love just don't go away, but yet they walk beside us each and every day. Unspoken, unheard, unfelt, but always near, we still love you, miss you and wish you was here.
He leaves to mourn: A loving and devoted wife: Marie S. Gordon of the home; One daughter; Yolanda (Arthur) Benjamin, Pooler, GA., One son; Rubin Jamel Gordon, Jr., Atlanta, GA. Four Grandchildren; Maurice (Latoria) Gordon, Augusta, GA., Wesley (Chante) Robinson, Lawreneville, GA., Quinton Robinson, Greenville, SC., Jasmine Robinson, Edisto Beach, SC. Terry and Mary Wright
Our spirits were sadden to hear about the passing of your love one but know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. There is a door that open but one way and that's at the end of life here on earth, Rubin has entered and God has welcome him in. Our prayers be with you and your family in the days ahead, knowing that God will encompass you in his love. Willie and Mary Jackson-Jones, Stormville, New York
