Curtis Lamar Weathers, son of the late Fermon and Murlee Richmond Weathers, was born on June 11, 1936 in Walnut Grove, MS. He was the third of eight children. His brothers, Cozie Lee Weathers, Billy Howard Weathers, Johnny Weathers, and Fermon Jr. Weathers and oine sister, Addie Lou Hudson, all preceded him in death.
At an early age, he joined Truelight Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Truestee Ministry, Mass Choir Ministry, and the Male Chorus Ministry. He was a faithful worker in the church up until his wife's health failed.
On April 28, 1956, Lamar married the love of his life, Thelma Williams. Thelma was a beautiful, strong, caring, and affectionate young woman. To this union 3 loving children were born. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. He spent many Sundays with his family, in his home, enjoying quality time with them. He was a gentleman of great wisdom for life. He taught his children to save for what they wanted and needed. He also taught them to be independent and to take care of what they had. He enjoyed laughing and joking with his family and friends. Lamar always had humorous words. Everywhere you saw Dad, you saw Mom. They were a team! They enjoyed life together.
Lamar was employed with Dixie Land Field Offshore Drilling for many years. He, and Elmer James (Monk) Richmond, were among the first African Americans to seek employment in the offshore drilling industry in the Leake County area. They opened the door for future employment for other African Americans.
Lamar made his transition from labor to reward on March 15,2021. He leaves to cherish his memories, a beautiful daughter, Gloria (Eddie) Willis; two sons, Dr. Larry L. Weathers (Rose) and Curtis F. (Sharon) Weathers; two sisters, Alma Jean McBeath and Bonnie Summers; one brother-in-law, Cecil Williams. His eight hrandchildren, Derrick, Marshaun, Ahaunte, Arsheka, LaMario, Tiffany, Curtez, and Nicholas, along with his fifteen great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A dear friend, J.B. (Shorty) Burkes, and his care giver, Derrick "Buck" Summers, who will also miss him.
