Obituary For Jean C. Jackson

A well-spent life filled with love, joy, peace, goodness, and faithfulness came to a close Tuesday, August 3, 2021, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Mrs. Jean Clair Sudduth Jackson, the only child of the late Mr. Dave Sudduth and Mrs. Annie Mae Whittington Sudduth, was born August 15, 1935 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. The Sudduth, along with many family members, called her “Baby Jean” and her parents cherished their daughter growing up. Believing that man has an appointment to depart from this earth, Jean prepared these words for her obituary.

At a very early age Jean realized that there was nothing better in life than knowing Jesus and she accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. She became a member of Wesley Methodist Church which later became Wesley United Methodist Church. Her first church activity was becoming a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship which she enjoyed very much, not having any siblings of her own she always enjoyed the company of people her age.

She attended the public schools of Attala County and was an active member in various activities. She graduated from Tipton Street High School in 1955.

Jean was wooed and courted by her childhood sweetheart, James Allen Jackson. They were married June 2, 1952. The Lord blessed this union with two devoted sons, James Michael and Jeffrey M. Jackson. After 50 years of marriage, the couple renewed their wedding vows to celebrate 50 years of marriage with a wedding among family and friends at Wesley and a reception followed in June 2002.

After high school, Jean accompanied her husband during his military duties throughout the United States and many countries in Europe. These tours of duty afforded her the opportunity to visit many interesting places like Hitler’s dugout, the area in which the movie “The South of Music” was filmed, a real salt mine and many other points of interest. She loved and enjoyed all the travel. One of her favorite places was Munich, Germany where her baby son was born.

Upon her husband’s retirement from the Armed Forces in 1971, the family returned to Kosciusko. Jean reactivated her membership with Wesley. She worked on the Finance and PPRC committees, taught Sunday School, served as a member f the Trustee Board on the Starkville District and she was president of the United Methodist Women for 21 years. Jean devoted a great deal of her time to Wesley in other capacities. Her greatest past-time was the Missionary Society which later became United Methodist Women, and she felt it was her calling. Jean implemented many activities along with several community missions projects, more specifically the Senior Citizens Galas and numerous home visits. She was a member of NCNW and past president of the local VFW.

Jean loved culinary arts and one could always find her in her kitchen preparing delightful meals. She was a devoted wife to James and a very loving mother to her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always showed so much love to her family friends, and was there to help anyone she could. In addition ,she often visited Attala Nursing Home as well as the Veterans Home. She looked forward to each of those visits.

Her employment history included: cashier for the Kroger Company in Kosciusko and Pearl Mississippi. She was employed by Leonard’s Department Store and Merchants & Farmer’s Bank. She retired after 20 years of service as a teller for Citizens National Bank.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories a devoted husband of 69 years, James Allen Jackson; two sons: James Michael and Jeffrey Martin Jackson of Kosciusko, MS; three granddaughters, Angel (Aaron) Hibbler of Union, MS; Kimberly Jackson (Kembe) Harris of Memphis, TN; and Jerra Jackson of Ridgeland, MS; two grandsons: Jerrell Jackson of Atlanta, GA; Jerren Jackson of Ridgeland, MS; two great-granddaughters, Jordyn French and Jacksyn Hibbler of Union, MS; three great-grandsons: Carson Jackson, Anderson Hibbler, and Kashton Harris; many close cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ and friends as she rest in eternal peace. Two special cousins preceded her in death: Nathan McDonald and Robert Pearl Bridges.
