James Davis May, known affectionately as JD or “Preacher”, was born to the late Will May and Narcissus May on February 7, 1941, in Carthage, MS. He was a lifelong resident and cherished member of the Carthage/Saint Anne Community.
JD loved gardening, fishing and hunting. His greatest enjoyment came from storytelling with friends and spending time with the grandchildren and the great grandchildren.
He passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and cancer. He is survived by his wife Annie Bell May and seven children: four sons, James Jr. (Chandra), David Lee (Belita), John and Tim and three daughters, Annette Evans (Aaron), Jeanette May, and Mary Anne Luckett (Gary). His legacy continues to grow with the joy of his twenty three (23) grandchildren and forty nine (49) great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behinds his siblings Betty Dawson, Thelma McMillian, Charles May (Margie), Larry May (Martha) all of Carthage, MS and Barbara May of Milwaukee, WI.
