Obituary
With reverence and gratitude to God, we celebrate the home going of Norma Annette King, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and servant of the Lord, who peacefully transitioned from this life on December 16, 2025.
Norma was born in Carthage, MS on October 5, 1959. She was educated in the Leake County School System and graduated from Carthage High School in 1977. She later pursued higher education at Mississippi University for Women and Louisiana State University, where she studied accounting.
From an early age, Norma’s life was rooted in faith. She attended Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in her youth, worshipping faithfully alongside her parents, brother, and sisters and building the spiritual foundation that would guide her throughout her life. In 1980, she gave her life to Christ at Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, marking the beginning of a deeper and lifelong commitment to her walk with the Lord. Her relationship with God was the most important part of her life and remained her foundation in every season.
On December 8, 1978, Norma was united in Holy Matrimony to Gary King Sr. Their union was blessed with 36 years of marriage, marked by love, faith, and partnership, until his passing. Together, they labored in ministry and family, walking hand in hand in service to God and others.
Norma served faithfully as First Lady of the House of Prayer, the church founded by her husband on December 19, 1999. She held this role for 16 years, laboring alongside him with humility, prayer, and unwavering dedication. She was also a gifted and beautiful singer, using her voice to glorify God and uplift the congregation through song. Whether in worship or quiet encouragement, her presence brought warmth, peace, and spiritual grounding to the church family.
Beyond the church, Norma dedicated over 30 years of service as a Case Worker for the State of Mississippi Department of Human Services, where she compassionately supported families in need and advocated for those often unseen. After retirement, she continued her service to the community by joining the library staff at the Carthage-Leake County Library, where she was well known. Community members could often find her offering a thoughtful book recommendation, a friendly conversation, or a word of wise and gentle advice.
A devout woman of God, Norma walked closely with her faith, not only in word but in daily practice. She believed deeply in prayer, service, and loving others as an expression of her devotion. Her spirituality was steady and sincere - an anchor for her family and a light to many.
Norma was known for her joyful spirit and ability to make people feel welcomed and seen. Her kindness was sincere, her laughter genuine, and her faith unwavering. She carried herself with humility and purpose, believing deeply in prayer, family, and service to others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary King Sr.; her father, Palma Clarence Jones Jr. and her sister, Theresa Denise.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Nykeba King, Gary (Nicole) King Jr., and Chelsea King; her treasured grandchildren, Alana King and Aleric King; her devoted mother, Fannie Mae Jones (Houston); her sisters Clemestine Pamela (Wesley) Carson and Shirlan (Henry) Horne; and her brother, Palma (Sue) Jones III; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends.
Though we mourn her earthly absence, we rejoice in the assurance that she now rests in eternal peace. Her life stands as a testament to faith lived fully, love given freely, and joy shared generously. As Scripture declares, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” - 2 Timothy 4:7
