Sometime the most important members of a team are the least heralded. My days at Russell Elementary (86-92) are filled with many memories of many people, but few are as vivid as Mrs. Mamie and Mrs. Bessie. They worked a tiresome and thankless job, but had great pride in what they did. I don't ever remember them missing even a day. I know the school they tended to was always immaculate. Bessie was soft spoken, sweet, and always had tobacco in her mouth. Mamie was feisty and needed Bessie to help her laugh things off. I always felt they loved all the kids at Russell Elementary. We had a bond as my brother and I were always the first kids in the school each day. As an adult I realize how rare those two women were and are in a culture that loves the spotlight. Wish I could turn back time and give them the recognition and honor they deserve. Amazing women and I'm grateful I had 6 years to experience them serve with humility, honor, and a joyful heart.
My GGMA You may have passed on, but your memories would always live on within us. Thank you for your sacrifices, your care and concern, your love and everything that you have done for me. Wherever you are, I know you are in a much better place. I will be forever grateful and thankful that you are my GGMA🩵🕊️
Mamie was such a blessing to us at Russell Elementary School. I was blessed to work with her from 2000 to 2017. She was in the halls and classrooms on a daily basis and always had words of wisdom for both the teachers and students. She was not afraid to let you know how things should be done either! She was a woman of strong opinions! She was a special lady and will be missed. My condolences to the family. Jo Hall/RES Principal 2012-2017
