Obituary For Marvis Roberts Sr.

Marvis Roberts, Sr. was born July 30, 1933, to the parentage of the late Plenty and Maggie Lane Roberts in McRae, Georgia. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, uncle, and friend. Marvis attended Telfair County High School and graduated from Beach High School in Savannah, Georgia. During the Korean War, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. After leaving the Army, he began his civilian career at Robins Air Force Base. He retired from civilian service in May 1989 after having served 34 years. The heart of Marvis’s life was always encouraging and helping our youth to become their best. Because of his love for sports and passion for helping youth, he joined the Warner Robins Recreational Department team as a youth leader and baseball umpire. During the last part of his working years, he joined the team at Specialty Services as a delivery service man and later retired after serving many years. Marvis spent most of his recreational life relaxing and boating at his beloved lake house on Lake Sinclair. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Earlier in his life, Marvis joined the Central Valley Baptist Church in McRae, GA, and he later joined with his family at the Warner Robins CME Church, where he was appointed to the Steward Board and the Trustee Board. He served actively and faithfully as his health permitted.

In 1974, he united in Holy Matrimony with Delores Tuft. They later added two beautiful children to their union, Deitra Sheree in 1978 and Arthur Duane in 1979.
After moving to Warner Robins, GA, he was a neighbor in the Jody Town community, a neighborhood whose neighbors shared common needs, interests, and values. Within the Jody Town neighborhood, he organized and became a Boy Scouts Master and prepared boys for community service and character development. From within the group of Boy Scouts, he organized and managed the Warner Robins Jets. Marvis led the Warner Robins Jets to become a Semi-Professional Baseball Team that traveled and played competitive baseball throughout Georgia and surrounding states.
Marvis was preceded in death by two children, Gathen and Reginald Roberts, two sisters, Ruby Roberts Reese and Deotha Parsons, and one brother, William Roberts.
He leaves to cherish his memories: A loving and devoted wife, Delores, and six children: Shirley McMinnis, of Avon Park, FL, Marvis (Chevy) Roberts, Jr. of Warner Robins, GA, Mershell (Michael) Terry of Lawrenceville, GA, Arthur (La’Kea) Roberts of Locust Grove, GA, Deitra Sheree (Gordon) Jacobs of Warner Robins, GA, Dianne (Pierre) Pilorge, of Atlanta, GA, nine grandchildren: Tiffanee (Terry) Price of Lithonia, GA, Taneesha (Benjamin) Hargrove of Lithonia, GA, Destiny Hamilton of Warner Robins, GA, Antonio (April) Roberts of Alexandria, VA, Ashley Roberts of Austell, GA, Gabriel Jacobs of Warner Robins, GA, Daniel Leonard, Avon Park, FL, Keith Montoya, Canton, MI, and Shaneque Samone (Zhivez), Lovett, Atlanta, GA, several great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and a beautiful Goddaughter, Savannah Renee’ McKinney.
