Rufus Jackson was born the son of the late Lucille and Lewis Jackson on April 19th, 1939. He was the first born of twins, and on this day Rufus and Ruby Jackson began their life journey. He had eight siblings total, with 5 of those siblings preceding him in death. Robert Lewis Jackson, James H. Jackson, Mary Ann Jackson, Florence Jackson, and Emmett Jackson are gone, but definitely not forgotten. His surviving siblings are his twin, Ruby Jackson, Josephine Clark (Anderson) and Leroy Jackson (Janice).
Rufus attended Meriwether County Training School from primary school through high school, graduating in 1958. As a young person, He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King were the two people he most admired. And that undoubtedly played a role in inspiring him to part in the Civil Rights Movement in Manchester, GA.
Rufus and Mary Elizabeth Millings married on married August 26, 1963. Rufus and Mary Jackson had two loving children, Asha and Bryce Jackson. Along with six grandchildren; Jordan Alexis Williams, Jolie Elizabeth Williams, Chase Jackson Williams, Christopher Bryce Jackson, Joi Christina Jackson, and Chance Alexander Williams. His wife Mary preceded him in death, but her positive impact, and her warm spirit will be with us forever. The same can be said for the essence of Rufus Jackson.
Rufus was known for being dependable and hardworking. He worked several years in management of convenience stores in Macon and Warner Robins.
His work ethic and attention to detail helped to promote him to the position of Quality Control at Sunbelt Plastics.
He retired after 16 years of dedicated service.
After retirement, Rufus became the business owner of Quality Cleaning, LLC. Rufus and his team of employees cleaned businesses, schools and homes in Central Georgia for over 15 years.
In retirement he enjoyed spending time traveling with Mary. They continued to welcome new experiences and get the juice out of life.
After his beloved wife, Mary, passed away, Rufus continued to stay active. He took care of his yard and cat Pepper Jack, he grew vegetables, went to church, and spent time with his family and friends. He cherished time to visit his daughter, son and his grandchildren.
He looked forward to driving to Manchester, Georgia, to see his siblings and extended family. He also enjoyed attending his class reunion and the August Meet at New Hope Baptist Church.
He transitioned from the physical world on May 13th, 2023, with his loving son, Bryce, grandchildren Christopher and Joi by his side.
He leaves a legacy of integrity, service, and resilience. He always found a way to be there for others, and made it a point to spend quality time with family, friends, and loved ones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his two children, three siblings, extended relatives and a host of friends.
